False Alarm...Easter, Embroidery and Serger (Overlock)

Good morning, Friends...Hope this finds you all happy, safe and well!  It's was just another week filled with the mundane (a Good thing) dealings of life.  Our refrigerator refused to make ice...I tried everything I know to make it change it's mind!  Nothing worked...then Larry gave it a go...nothing, once again.  He said it's silly to spend $$$$ on a repairman these days on a 15 year old refrigerator that may or may not have a few more years in it...so we went shopping.  Bought a less fancy brand called HiSense.  Never heard of it!  Lowes rep said it's new so they don't have much data on it yet.  $1618.39 with an added 5yr warranty added to the price.  They don't last like they used to.

We get home...I go to check on the ice maker in the old unit...and there's ice...staring at me...well...fudge!

Told Larry...we just looked at each other for a long half second then he says...we're still buying the new one.  Okay then but I tried to reason with him.  $500/700 repairman, parts & labor...no telling what breaks next...or, just buy the new one with warranty.

We bought the new one.  Lowes installed it the very next day!  What a race to clean out the old one!  I was totally out of freezer space!  But the job got done.

Everett, Samantha and Sloane at Easter.

Sloanes finger is healing nicely but she's also being very careful with it.

Our little Miss Sydney... from Tylar and Sara in Hungary (AF).  Ty has put in for a base in Arkansas and it is on his "wish list"...and ours!  Say a prayer, will you?!  They are coming home to the States soon...yea!!

Love my Baby Lock embroidery machine!  Starting to learn!

No more frayed edges!  Love the Brother Serger (Overlock).

Pasta dish Larry made...it was really good!

Breakfast this morning... I cook the sausages in my airfryer...no time at all!  And they brown all over instead of the two sides.

I also made leg quarters and Larry made the sweet beans...
Well, that's about it for me this week.  Hope you all are well and happy and staying out of trouble! lol
Have a great weekend!  So, until next time...

The Baby Shower...45 years ago, Ouch and Getting There.

Good morning, Friends... Well, it's been an eventful week.  The baby shower for granddaughter, Samantha, was lovely.  And she was beautiful as ever.  Daughter Crystal drove up for the party and was a big hit with baby Sloane.  We all had our pictures taken with Sam... drank a little cucumber water...ate donuts...goodies lined the table.  I must say I didn't eat any of it...just had the water.  Sam got a lot of wonderful gifts, and she loved my quilt!  Made me feel so good... all that blood, sweat and tears were worth it. lol

Morning of the shower, I whipped up a pink pillowcase for our Sloane...I'm going to embroider an S on the sash...at least I'm going to attempt to...

Daughter Crystal (Sloane's Lolli ) Sloane and her other granny, Joycelyn (Honey).

Sloane got a few things, as well...

My sister Ruth Ann is talking to me again... fine with me.  I'm shutting my mouth...smiling a lot...nodding my head a lot...and making the effort to get along.  Anyway...she gave me this quilt top she "almost" finished 45 years ago...yes, it's that old.  Anyway, since her chemo treatments, she has lost feeling in her hands and can't sew anymore.  She said to take it home with me... she has no use for it.  I think she was just trying, in her own way, to be nice...anyway, I like to think so...
She gave me the scrap material that goes with it.  Hope I can fix it and finish the blocks.  The point row on the left side is missing...we'll see.... wish me luck.
Oh...just a tiny reminder...I'm not just writing a "quilting" blog!  I just happen to be starting my journey into the world of sewing and quilting...along with other things in my life.  Hobbies!  Gotta' stay active!
Speaking of active...Larry's Dad, Gerald was back in the hospital...a small blood clot at the IV injection site...but he was also exhibiting anger, delusions... memory loss...all in a big way.  After treatment, the hospital sent him BACK to the nursing home... sigh... The boys had a meeting with the officials of the center yesterday and it was decided that Dad wouldn't be going home...ever.  So... now it's long-term care at $6,000 grand a month...private pay...smh...A live-in person is at least $1,500 a Week here...so...that's where we are.
He didn't recognize Kenny, Larry's brother...

It's a beautiful pattern...and I've not seen bars that tiny.

I made Sloane a little Easter basket...

Warning!!!!
IF you're squeamish about blood...scroll by really fast!!

Our poor baby Sloane got her finger caught in the back door!  She was trying to pull it out before Sam could reach her!  They called the doctor's office but there wasn't a need to take her in, they said.  Sam shot them a photo but was told to just disinfect it and wrap it.
I get to keep her tomorrow...I'll see how bad it still is.  She's a country girl, for sure.

Well, I got a good start on my sewing room clean-up.  Got all my machines lined up... I'm glad to have gotten the serger...I'm so tired of all the fraying on the ends of my quilts!  I was pinking them with my shears, but my hand was killing me!  The serger is an Airflow 3000 by Brother.  No more hair-pulling because you can't get it threaded correctly!

Well, that's been my week...Hope yours has been a good one and you all are well and happy.  So... until next time...

Shock Cleaning...Label, Spring and Miss Lottie Lynn

Good morning, Friends... Well, I got tired of doing my sewing in the living room!  So... I got the brilliant idea to move everything to a bedroom that I use as my "office", Cricut Room...etc.  Well, Larry bought me the Cricut about 4 years ago just because he thought I needed a hobby...lolol...I didn't need a Cricut, but I thought it such a sweet thing to do, I tried to use it.  I did make some t-shirts for Sloane...(greatgran), Larry used it to print out a few things but basically, it just gathered dust.  I really tried to get into it but...alas...never happened.  Well, last week Larry said, while I was trying to figure out just where I could put all my sewing equipment, he says, to sell the Cricut to make room!  Bingo...so I did.  Listed it on Facebook and got tons of offers immediately.  I chose a local girl that is friends with my daughter and granddaughter.  She was thrilled to get it along with all the accessories.
Now the room change-over begins.

What a MESS!  I forgot to get a "before" shot...

Libby has to supervise...

We both carried...dragged...struggled with...this table to get it into position!  We are both too old to do all this manual labor!   What a shocking realization!  ....lolol  We have no one that can help us...we are all we have, short of hiring someone.  I was tempted!  Maybe not yet though...but soon may have no alternative.  We took a long break afterwards.  I was surprised we were able to get out of bed the next morning!

Still, so much to do...

Well...it probably is...lolol

Big Sister Sloane is excited to welcome little sister Lottie into the family...May God grant them closeness and loyalty with lots of love sprinkled in, for always.

This is our still un-born, Miss Lottie Lynn...Can you believe the clarity of this ultrasound????  It absolutely took our breath away!!  She's so beautiful...Thank you God!!

Baby Lottie's quilt is almost done!  All that's left is me hand sewing the label on!  Samantha's shower is Saturday...the label arrived just in time!

And yes, I added Larry (Gampa's) name...he did hold the quilt up for me so I could get the full-on shot...Lolol

This is a new block I'm playing with...log cabin but, I need to finish the label, then get the sewing room finished and cleaned up.

A quick tip...I needed a place to be able to look at my blocks that I create.  Larry had a large piece of cardboard, and I had an old plastic tablecloth that has that short furry backside on it...I cut the tablecloth to fit the cardboard, furry side up, glued it down all around the edges...added some "Alien Tape" (Amazon) to stick to the back of my sewing room door...and it works great!  Yes, you can see the pattern of the tablecloth, but I just ignore it because I really don't want to bother going to Dollar Tree for a new one.

Spring is springing here, even though it returned to cold weather last week.  It's warmer this week now...thank goodness.

Larry is making birdhouses now...I think they're too cute...he's going to make 6 or 7 and put then on the side of the wood shop wall.

Food Court

Granddaughter Samantha brought Larry and I, apple fritters. We had kept little Sloane, and I think this was a bribe...lolol

Larry's Dad had sent a box of Omaha steaks 2 years ago and this little filet was found in a lower basket of the freezer.  Figured I better get it cooked!  It was alright but tiny.

Pan of chicken and baby red potatoes

Tri-tip and corn with green beans

Well, I suppose that's it for me...for now.  The city is still working on our road... it'll be good when they finish. Then I have granddaughter Samantha's baby shower to attend on Saturday...I hope she likes the quilt... So, until next time...
