I'm How Old?

Got to have coffee at the book store with Ellani this morning...You'll never believe what a complete idiot I've been...For the last 6 or 7 months, for some asinine reason, I have KNOWN I was about to have my 57th birthday on Aug 9th right? .....Ellani and I were discussing how long we've known each other (about 45yrs) and the question of birthdays came up. Her birthday is November 29th, 1950 and mine is in 1951...She says, "I'll be 57 in November",.......I looked at her like she'd sprouted wings or something and politely said she was wrong with all the authority of an idiot. After stopping and analysing the information I suddenly realised what a gift I'd been given...another year. Boy, talk about a good laugh!! She said she'd done that several years back as well. Don't know if there is something Freudian about this experience or not but I'll take that extra year, thank you very much! So, hope your day is or has been filled with a special gift and tomorrow brings a special touch of promise.

Friday Again

It's time for relaxing again! Hope you all get to find time in your weekend for a little fun. Love the picture! But how on earth do you manage to drive the thing? Probably runs better than a truck...although I don't think I'll be trying it out!

Daughter and kiddos are going to spend the night at a girlfriend's house. Just Hubby and I will be wandering around the old place tonight, and oh yes, Corky, our 15yr old terrier. The kids have really spoilt him since they moved in last year. He's partially blind and stone deaf. Follows the kids everywhere and if he can't find anyone, he'll stand in the hallway and snort, or bark...That's his que for being picked up and deposited on a bed where the action is. Kids that is...

Well, guess I'll get back to work. It's the end of the month closing and year end for us so there's a bit of work to do. Y'all have a great day and a better tomorrow.

How to get a Man to do What?

Just had to let y'all see the kind of stuff we get here in the office! Seems like it would a bit uncomfortable to lean up to the sink to wash your hands...or do I miss the point? Y'all have a great day!

A Little Magic

Ever find yourself wishing you had a fairy godmother to "poof" up your every wish? I can think of lots of things to wish for...more time off...people smiling more...happiness for all of us here on earth. My daughter to find true love and my son to wake up to life. Oh well, they say "if wishes were horses, all beggers would ride." It'll all come in time because, I believe...
I've been noticing the weather up north lately. Seems y'all are getting rain and colder temps! It's still in the lower 90's here in Texas. The sporadic showers we've been getting lately though have helped cool it off a bit.
Hubby got to work yesterday morning and had a run-in with some guy supposedly walking his wife to work. Seemed to be on "dope" of some kind. Hubby said he stuck his head in the truck's window, so Hubby whipped out his trusty...camera and shot his picture. Said the guy was screaming at him and carrying on something awful. He eventually wandered off behind some buildings and was gone. I really worry about Hubby getting here so early in the mornings. You never know what could happen. And he'd be alone. Hate it. Oh well, never ending battle.
Well, to everyone out there who has a wish, may it come true for you today. Have a great day and a better tomorrow.

Happy 35th Baby!

Well, Happy Anniversary Sweetie! Thank you for the sweet surprise I found on my desk this morning! Every time we agree not to...you already have. Well, I want you to know, IF we could get away, this would be waiting in the yard for you. So until that time gets here, we'll have to make do with the 5th wheel. I love you...(I can hear some of you out there...I'll get him one...I promise!)

Hope every one had a wonderful evening. We didn't do much of anything. Ate a little bar-b-que and just hung out with the kids.

Did y'all see the moon this morning? It was fabulous! Biggest I've seen in a long time. Tried to get a picture of it, but by the time I got ready, it was gone. Oh well. We may go out to eat dinner tonight, or not. The longer you're married, it's more about the "quiet" things instead of putting on a good show. It doesn't matter what we do as long as we're happy. Well, y'all have a wonderful day and a better tomorrow.

Rudolph? Already?

Well, well! Christmas picture? Already? Yep! It's coming folks. Ready or not, it's on it's way. Out of 35yrs of marriage, I've only been completely ready twice. That means that I had my shopping for presents done, meal planned and the basics bought and in the freezer or pantry...waiting. Also, that everything was completely paid for. This whole holiday season really begins with Halloween. From there, it's a rush and a push to get it all done. I have already bought two things for relatives and they are stored away awaiting the arrival of more. Everything that goes into the storage room will be completely paid for!!! How can you really enjoy Christmas or anything else on Christmas morning if you look at the pile of presents and think to yourself, "geez, the bills!" No Way!!! I won't ever do that again! I've set a deadline for myself for December 1st to have every present bought. I have zero balances on both of my credit cards and I like it that way. If I use the cards for anything, I immediately get online and pay it back to zero. I get the extra credit for using the card (cash back) and it's paid off. Writing a check and mailing it in cost money. This way I get paid for my shopping. Win ,win all around. I know it's not always possible to do it, but if you can, and your only excuse is just that you put things off, well...jingle bells. So, on that note, I guess I'll get busy and start planning for Halloween...candy...that was easy enough...Thanksgiving? Turkey...there again...easy. Christmas? As I said before, I'm a Christmas person. I put The Christmas Carol on the TV or ...The Mummy...(love those movies) and I decorate the tree. Pots of coffee, laughter and just plain fun. So, who's with me? Bills? No bills? Now where's my stocking? Y'all have a great night and a better tomorrow.

Need? or Desire

Ed was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was REALLY angry...She told him, "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from O to 200 in less than 6 seconds and it BETTER BE THERE!"

The next morning, Ed got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough, there was a box, gift wrapped, in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife threw on her robe and ran out to the driveway and brought the box back into the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Ed has been missing since Friday. Please pray for him.

Let me begin by saying, yes, Hubby and I will celebrate 35yrs together on Wednesday, and no, this post is not...just for him...REALLY! lol I really don't know where all the time has gone! Seems yesterday that we'd met. I was a 9th grader and he was a "studly" senior. It wasn't until years later that we started to date and got married. Now I have...grandchildren...how did that happen?...(I know, I know!) lol Well I hope the next 35 will be a blast. Either here on earth or in heaven, it'll be a blast...I'm determined! Y'all have a great day and a better tomorrow.

It's That Time Again...

It's that time again...yes ladies, time to change over your purses to one that's more usable for the season. I've been using one called "The Sak". I don't know what happens in between the times I do my change overs. Growth is great for hair or puppies but not for your purse. So much junk I just knew I would need. Got dumped in the abyss of "purse", never to be seen again. The bits of paper! Why did I want to save a coupon that expired in May? Or carry a pen knife into the courthouse when I got called for jury selection...They didn't see it when they pushed my purse through the xray machine? Gads, makes me feel safe. Anyway, have successfully changed all my highly important things over to my trusty Vera Bradley, and yes I've left the pen knife in the little pocket. Never know what I might need it for...Hubby's making pot roast. (I believe I'm pretty lucky! I did all the cooking for years, so when Hubby decided he'd like to try his hand at it, off he went!) A good day all around. Y'all have a good day tomorrow!

Tilapia and Polenta

Hubby is at it again. Dinner menu is Tilapia and Polenta. He does this "thing" with the polenta by adding garlic, chicken stock, salt, pepper and Fontina cheese. Brings to a boil and talk about delicious! Smooth and creamy. Fries the Tilapia 'till it's crisp around the edges..yum...He used to make this incredible lemon sauce to go with the fish. Guess I'll have to go begging.

Nothing much doing here today. Got up early to hit the stores. If you get there before the crowds you don't have to fight to get to what you need. Around here that usually means getting there by 7:30am or so.(grocery) All else usually opens around 9 or 9:30. I hate Saturday shopping. If you wait 'til later in the morning...well, don't. I remember getting up at 5:00am just to get to Wal-Mart before the crowd.

Well, bought a few books at Books-a-Million so there's no time like the present to go get started. Y'all have a great night or day, which ever comes first!

End of a...Week!

Well, it's the end of a very long week for me, at least. Feeling better, slowly, day by day. Gonna rest, rest and rest some more! I was sitting out in the backyard the other day when a bird I'd never seen before flew up and landed on the fence. It had a bright yellow body, black wings and a white beak! Beautiful, but who knows what it was...(I heard that and No, I didn't take too much Excedrin!) Hubby said,"D'cha get the bird book out and look?"....no....couldn't see the print in the bird book at that time, well enough, to tell what it was...oh well, a mystery.

I see that several of the blogs have a "10 Things that make you Happy" theme going. Here goes mine.

1. laughter

2. holding hands with Hubby

3. Grand Babies calling my name, Gamma

4. At 57, getting to wake up again this morning

5. My daughter, Crystal

6. Good friends

7. Books, lots and lots of books.

8. Chocolate Mocha Lattes

9. Christmas Holidays

10. Peace

OK...You have to give it a try. If you read this blog, you're tagged! (only if you want to...) Makes you stop and think though. There are so many people in pain. Nita's hubby John needs lots of prayer but seems to be getting a little better! It seemed that every blog I touched on last night, that there was someone hurting. I send you all lots of hugs and love for a better tomorrow!

Elizabeth 1 & 2

Thanks for the sweet words of encouragement guys! People you've never met, care. There are some really kind people in blog land... I seem to be getting a little better now. Woozy a bit, but at that stage where if you lay down for any length of time, you pop right back up and just sit there...Great for meditating though! lol... Got my postcard from "Bella"!! Really pretty country! That was fun to do. We'll have to do it again sometime. I can't wait for Elizabeth to turn up in the theaters. Maybe instead of waiting for the DVD, we'll go see it. The first one was wonderful. The sequel, Elizabeth, The Golden Age looks just as good. I must say...what?
Well, the cooler weather hasn't made up it's mind to stay with us. 70's in the evenings and 90's in the daytime. A little pre-Fall rain would really be nice.

Other than paying a few bills and getting a new employee signed on here at work, there hasn't been a whole lot going on today. So, hope your evening will be a happy one and I'll talk at you tomorrow.

Bite out of Somebody!

Yes I'd like to take a bite out of somebody...Tooth, crown, whole shebang got pulled yesterday...Gads...what a WEEK I'm having...could be worse...The antibiotics they originally gave me DID NOT WORK...now, after a phone call to their office telling them my left cheek looked like a bad plastic surgery job had taken place, I told the nurse (???loosely said) what antibiotics work on me and what doesn't. We'll see if I have correctly guessed again...It's been about four hours since the first dose and I do believe the cheek feels a little looser. We'll see. So, I think I'll head back to the bed...and wait..Y'all try to have a good day tomorrow.

Didn't I Say Threes?

I believe I said yesterday that trouble usually runs in threes....Well, an ill fitting crown had the audacity to rear it's ugly head! I hate when that happens! SO, I've started on an antibiotic which after 6 hrs, has not started to do it's thing yet...Its one of those 5 day ones. 250mgs each...2 the first day, one each day after that. Something got under the crown and I can't get it out with my trusty water pic...I've probably made things worse. Have an appt. Wednesday. Gads, not soon enough for me. I'll quit whining. Retired nurses are the worst!...
Air conditioner update...It's fixed. Put a new condensate line on. Seems to be working. We can only hope. Well, guess I'll crawl to the bed (not really) have a pity party (not really) and hope for a better tomorrow for me and you! PS-Now THOSE are some pretty teeth!

A New What?

Well you might know things usually happen in threes or in our case, twos. Yesterday it was the stopped up sink. Last night it is the Air conditioner. We purchased the last unit in 1994. This one is still around on a wing and a prayer. We heard water dripping like crazy inside the unit's closet. So, Hubby determined the condensate line was not stopped up. The water's flow just won't go out the pipe. There seems to be water dripping from right under the coils so maybe it's just rusted out. Who knows. The a/c man was here on Wednesday to clean it...hum...not going there. He's been our "across the street" neighbor for over 30 years and has worked on our a/c needs for just as long. His wife's Mother died last week, their oldest son's wife is battling ovarian cancer, and his own Father is fighting throat cancer. So, do you think I'm going to say anything? No Way. We'll suck it up and replace the old leaky thing.

Hubby just reattached the electrical line to our attic fan. Wonderful. Pulls in that cool air from outside. It's 74degrees here right now and I'm loving it. Well I don't know what's left that needs to fall apart. We've replaced or remodeled just about everything we can think of. So, that said, while I sit here with an umbrella over my head, wishing you a great night and a much better tomorrow.

Prince of a Plumber

YO HO you say! Yes, my prince did indeed ride up on his trusty diesel pick-up. Got that kitchen sink unclogged in no time. Really glad it was a quick fix. We had visions of having to break up the tile floor again! That's the reason we went ahead and did the remodel in the first place. Texas "ground" shifts. A lot. Especially where we live. But, thank God it was minor.
Well, if you'll notice, I've been playing with my site. Colors, that is. OK, picture to....and adding my most favorite Trunk Monkey video. My daughter was playing around with her blog, Everyday Love, Life and Happiness (It's link is in my favorites to read list on the left) and figured out how to add the video. That was one of my questions for RobC. It's not like on his site, but it'll work. Trunk Monkey has been around for awhile, but they can be so funny. I never tire of watching them. He just knows how to get the job done.

Well, we are just rambling around the house getting stuff mowed, cleaned and repaired. Oh yes, and posting on the blog. Y'all have a great evening and a better tomorrow.

Bones and Such

Well, it's been a busy day. Phones went absolutely crazy. This was stopped up, that was leaking, I want this done NOW..."Do you know who you're talking to?"....I think that's my favorite one. I really want to say, just once, "No!, don't you know?" Have to be nice though...Maybe some day. Just once would be fun though. My neck is killing me. It pops out quite often. My Dad was a Chiropractor and I use to get freebies on the crackings. Took me four different tries to find a hands-on Dr. Finally found one that is almost as good as Dad was. Several of the ones I went to used the little hammers to pop the bone back in place. It always popped back out again. I use to have to go often because of the little hammers....not now. Dr. Mac is a hands-on Dr. Pops that bone in, in and out of the office in less than 10 minutes. Last time I went for a visit was almost 7 months ago. If your skeletal system is out, other things start popping up. Headaches, breathing difficulties, a plethora,(love that word) of things. Medical doctors do not sanction Chiropractors. They're getting better about it but I don't think they will entirely accept them as physicians. Oh well, their loss. Well, Hubby just announced that we'll be eating out in the morning for breakfast...the kitchen sink is stopped up...go figure. Thank God I'm not married to a Doctor. Y'all have a great evening and a better tomorrow.

Lipstick in Schools

According to a news report, a certain school in Garden City, MI was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12 year old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the washroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principle decided something had to be done. He called all the girls to the washroom and met them with the maintenance man. He explained that all those lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, he asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

Moral of this story? There are teachers, and then there are Educators....

This was emailed to me....love it..Have a great day.

Still Sick

William went to school yesterday, no fever, feeling fine. This morning he's back home with a fever. Now we're just praying Sami doesn't get it. He has lots of allergies so this is not his best time of the year. Hope everyone had a peaceful evening. It was my early day to go home yesterday so I had time to cook a pork tenderloin in the Advantium. 18 minutes. Done, crisp on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. Yes, I even had to thaw it out...6 minutes. I just love that little machine. I'm at work and the phones are dead. Some days that just happens. Other days, you are so busy, you can't catch your breath. Oh well, a little rest never hurt. It's 88degrees here again today but they say it'll start the climb back up to the mid 90s by Friday. No plans this weekend. Hope all of you have a great evening and a better tomorrow.

9-11-01

Well, I really do not mean to be irreverent on this day of sad memories but perhaps you won't take me to task...I could not resist this photo. I think it says a lot about how a bunch of us feel. If you click on it, it should enlarge so you can read it better.
Thanks Dick for checking in on my site! You're always welcome! My Hubby and I were always rooting for you to find happiness again. Glad you did.
I must say it's a bit cooler here today. 88 degrees. Nice! Cloudy, but it really makes you feel like Fall is just around the corner. So, for today, I'll say God Bless America. Bless her and keep her safe always. I know it sounds hokey...but I really do pray for world peace.

Little William's not Feeling Good

Little boy has had a fever for the past two days. Compliments of the school I suppose. Hasn't been sick for a very long time and just a week after school starts, here we go. Oh well, part of the territory I suppose. Don't you just hate it when the little ones are sick? Bless their hearts...
Glad Mary Lou's out of the hospital! You get better Girl!!! I guess it's, "tis the season" for getting sick.
Crystal (daughter) stayed home from work today to be with Will. Missed her at work but sure did like to come home to a clean house! She worked her little tail off cleaning. She's my sweet Baby girl...(she hates it when I baby talk to her!) But she is a good girl. Never asks for anything. You just about have to beat her to get her to take anything. Oh well, like I said, a good girl.
Well guess I'll get this posted. Y'all have a great day tomorrow!

#2 Horse update

Went out to my sister's place today to get some shots of Red. He is getting better by the day. Ruth Ann showed me a picture of what he looked like before he was so badly mistreated...just makes you want to...can't do that can you? Legally? Guess not. Anyway, I meant to grab the picture, bring it home and scan it into my pictures, but ran off and left it on the end table. I'll get it next week. You'll be shocked.
We have not done anything worth shouting about this weekend. Trying to play catch up on sleep from the other night. I know you never really do catch up on sleep but I like to pretend that I can. The dogs in the picture belong to Sis also. Pitiful things...their dog house is bigger than a regular size bedroom...With air conditioning. So if I'm ever in dire straits...you know where I'm heading. lol That's Ruth Ann scratching Red. He loves her!
Well guess I'll go check and see what all the pan rattling is going on in the kitchen. Hubby's putting bar-b-que on the pit (chicken). I'll try and get a pic of it for you. Have a great night and a better tomorrow.

BOOK 'EM DANO!!!

Well, we got him!!! At 2:30am the phone rings again...It's Ken. "Guy's in the yard again," "You called the cops?" I asked. "Oh yeah," was the reply. "I'll tell Hubby!!" Hubby jumps up out of bed, races to get dressed, and out the door...again. This time it went a bit different. Hubby gets to the shop to find cop cars galore (8), Suspect, in cuffs, on the ground. Thief tried to fool them by hiding in one of the work vans when he saw the cops pull into the yard. Police found a bag full of copper fittings, estimated worth of around $500.00. Hubby is happy, Ken is happy, I'm happy...now where's the bed??? Guess I'll close for now. Y'all have a great day!

Pavarotti

How sad to hear there will be no more Pavarotti. No more three tenor concerts with Pavarotti. Really enjoyed those. You know, 71 is still young as far as I'm concerned. He had so much more to give. Oh well, I suppose he'd done everything he was suppose to do here on earth. I never liked Opera before I listened to him. I'll miss him.
Today is already Thursday again! Where is the time flying to? My granddaughter made the volleyball B team and they have a game late this afternoon. Here's cheers for her!
Well, Here's hoping your evening will be a happy and safe one so until tomorrow...

Intuition Perhaps?

I can't believe it. All the preparation for the copper thief, all that waiting...he shows up this morning at 4:20am. Ken, our office manager called us at home at 4:30am to say, "Our thief is in the yard!" I run to tell Hubby what's going on, he grabs his cell phone, and runs off to the shop! Good Lord, what if he runs straight into the thief! Has Ken called the police? Well no, Hubby didn't run into the guy, but Ken obviously called the police. There were 4 patrol cars here when Hubby arrived, as well as Ken. No thief. Police didn't arrive in time to catch him...SO, you can use every technological device known to man, but unless the police get here in time to nab him, it's useless. Now Hubby has bought an infrared device,(camera?) to help in the process. Hopefully, we'll get our man! Guess I'll get back to work. I'll try to post more tonight.

I DID IT!! I DID IT!!

PS: I DID IT!!! Something so simple...Never clicked until my first "lesson" from Robc's new blog. JUST LOOK TO THE LEFT FRIENDS.....and click away...lol...I've got quiet a few to add but the night is waining so I'll sneak some in from the work computer tomorrow. Thank you SO much Robc. Night all!

Got a Few Drops

It seems we're getting a little rain. We really did need it. Slow and easy. Plants are perking up. Heard from my sister about the horse update. She's named him Red. I think it fits. Today she took him back to the Vet, Dr. Edwards. Nice guy. He told her he wanted Red to spend the night for observation again, but he thought he was looking so much better. Ruth Ann (sister) said that would be fine but who'd be buying the beer? Of course Dr. Edward was perplexed..."What?", he asked..."The beer...who's buying?"...she says. Silence... At this point Ruth Ann takes pity and tells him that Red likes a beer with his dinner...OK...LOL. I do believe Dr. Edwards will be buying tonight.

Update on the copper thieves...we installed a new gate, infrared detectors and more cameras. Now all we need is the thief. If he or they show themselves anywhere in the yard we'll have them. Just waiting.

My granddaughter made the volleyball team at school. She's really excited about it. They have their first game Thursday night. Hope they have loads of fun and no tears.

Well guess I'll close for tonight. I want to scoot over to RobC's site for my blogging lesson. He created a new site just for us blog illiterates. Here's a link to the site:

http://www.robcsblogbashingguide.blogspot.com/ Again, thanks for your generosity.

Again?

Well, I really did mean to stay away from the television today, but Hubby and I decided to watch the made for TV movie, Merlin. It was good as well. Sam Neil is another good actor. Enjoyed it a lot. Hubby heated up last night's supper which consisted of okra, onions, corn, tomatoes and sausage. Bake up a pan of cornbread and you have it. Very good! Well It rained a bit in the night. Glad, but it sure went away fast. Made it into the 90's. A little steamy. Oh well, fall will ring in soon, hopefully. I guess Mother Nature knows when we've had enough of one season, she changes it to the next. Well our holiday weekend is almost over. We've done absolutely...nothing. Eat and rested. I do believe it felt pretty good. Guess I'll go finish up getting things sorted out for work. Have a great evening, and a fun tomorrow.

Movie Marathon

Today was spent having a movie marathon. Raiders, all three of them and Wild Hogs. Loved all of them. Raider's 4th movie will be released May 28th of 08. Can't wait. Filming is going on as we speak. It was a fun day but after about 8 hrs spent in one position, well, Hubby and yours truly begged off. I'm stuffed. Breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks...you get the picture. If anyone says "Dinner!", I'm running for the hills. They were both fun to watch and Wild Hogs turned out to be really funny. You girls out there know how some of those men flicks can be. Not this one. Ray Liotta stars in it as well. Played his part great, like he does in all of his roles. Oh well, guess we'll give the marathons a break for another few months. Next time it'll probably be Lord of the Rings or The Mummy. The kids love it so what can you do...Yeah, blame it on the kids...Have a wonderful evening and an even better tomorrow.

September Already?

Where in the world did August go? Seems it was just May. We had a bit of a promised rain shower last night, finally. Not enough to completely soak the ground but enough to dampen it. We are off work until Tuesday. Labor Day is Monday. We were ready for a rest so three days will do. Before you know it it'll be Christmas. I've wanted to go ahead and get my shopping done before Halloween. That way all I have to worry about is decorations and getting up the tree. Also, it'll allow for more free time to enjoy Thanksgiving. We usually have turkey both on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just tradition for us. I remember the first Thanksgiving after my Mom passed, Hubby and I we're sort of in limbo as to what to do for a meal. Dad was trying to break up the routine by eating with friends, my sister was eating elsewhere, so that left Hubby and myself to go it alone. Yes, we were invited to eat with Dad and Sis, but I was "being brave" and not interfering with their plans. Dumb. We went to Luby's Cafeteria. When we sat down to eat, all I could do was cry. Not loud, silent. You know. Tears wouldn't stop rolling down my face. Poor Hubby just said "Lets get out of here," and I couldn't move fast enough. He was my rock. Mom passed in '96 and Daddy passed in '02. You can bet that after Daddy passed, we had the traditional turkeys for both holidays, at home. Well, after all that, hope you have an enjoyable evening and a better tomorrow.
