American Okra Anyone?

We love okra...hands down! You can stew it, steam it or fry it. These little babies are dehydrated for snacking and really, Really good. Hubby pointed out a rack of healthy snacks at the grocery on Saturday while we were shopping. These things "crunch" just like potato chips to...love that! We buy a bag...get it home...and when the time for a snack arose, I opened it up and started crunching away. NO NO!! I didn't find any bugs or such IN the bag but, written on the Outside of the bag was the manufacturer's address...China...Made in China...Lordy. I forgot to flippin' LOOK at the bag in the store. See how "comfortable" I still am when shopping? The okra snack was good...but that will be the last bag we buy. Now I'm off to find one made in AMERICA....geez! Hope you all are having a great start to your week!

Okra doesn't make it into the Canadian menu, but to get a local crop from China seems odd. It's not exactly the 100 mile diet.

Ac, You don't know what you're missing! It's Wonderful!
But China???
Stay warm up there!! Also hope you all are feeling better today!

Sounds really good, but, oops, I don't know if I'd want to eat something made in China!

Enjoy your day, Donna!

Good greif, Miss Donna~ I didn't even know the Chinese grew okra! JEEZ! What is the world coming too!
Of course, we can't grow okra here because of the deer... maybe they don't have deer in China?

I've actually never had Okra.

Please don't laugh, but I have never had okra. I think I may have to rectify this. As for China - isn't everything made there?
Have a good week.

oh! I love fried okra! I think it's more a southern dish, as I have talked of okra to some northern friends and they don't know much about it! Surprised we're getting OKRA products from China these days!

I only have okra in the summer, bought at the farmer's market. I love it fried with cornbread, sliced tomatoes and peas. Yum!!

Hi Donna! you know, this is something that's really been bugging me for awhile now. you look at anything, I mean anything, and it says made in China. It's very disheartening when you think about it - so many Americans out of work, looking for a job, and our store shelves are filled with stuff not made in America. If it weren't the case our unemployment would be so much lower. Okra requires a fairly long growing season to grow, but hey, what's wrong with okra grown in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, California, Arkansas, Missouri...well, you get the drift. I just don't get it. I'm yearning for the days when I used to see an American flag next to "made in America" on the bottom or side of a product. If we all start a boycott perhaps we would make a difference? Thanks for you kind comments Donna, and I hope you have a beautiful day!

UGH!

I will never eat okra again because the only person who knew how to make it -- dredged in cornmeal and fried to golden brown perfection, that is -- was my darling, Papaw, in heaven these sixteen years.

Out of a bag? From CHINA? NEVAH! LOL

I get worried when I see where things are made. Who knows what about their adherence to health regulations! And whether they even HAVE health regulations!

Oh my goodness.... I can't imagine an okra snack from China....

I love okra.... boiled, fried, sauteed.... whatever.... I grew up on okra..... HOWEVER, even though I have '5' grandchildren from China, I don't want any okra from China.

Hugs,
D

We are Fried Okra fans in this fam! Grow your own in your own backyard is the BEST way to make sure it's not imported!

I love okra too. I must admit that I always check where stuff comes from in the supermarket, and always try to buy British when it's available. In Winter I sprout beans and seeds in a jar to add to the selection of fresh vegetables that haven't flown thousands of miles.

Dang!
Love okra and their blossoms are so beautiful but I'm with you, I'll start reading the labels even more.
Happy Wednesday, my friend!

I will admit I have never tried okra either. We do love Rice Chips though...perhaps I should go and look at the bag and see where they are from!!

I haven't been checking my FOOD but I sure will from now on...I'm glad you lived to tell the story LOL :)

Thanks for the info, girl...
