Donna...DON'T Push That Button!

This is Justin (the Senior)...Crystal and I did his shoot last Wednesday...Thursday morning, I couldn't wait to see what the shots looked like so when I got to work, I uploaded then onto my work computer...Thank GOD! Saturday morning, as usual, I'm sitting on the couch enjoying my coffee and trying to figure out ISO settings and where the heck the white balance settings were. Up pops the FORMAT setting and for some STUPID reason, I hit the YES button! Wellllllll...I guess you know what happened after that! Oh yeah...I just freakin' Froze. Gone...ALL images...gone. I think my mind also went totally dark. I could NOT believe what I had just done. Then, slowly, I started to recover from the shock...computer...work...Putting the two words together spelled, Salvation! I would just flash drive them and bring them home! I will NEVER learn all there is to photography...And I'll certainly NEVER be a professional! And right at this moment, I certainly don't want to do any more shoots for strangers...Lordy! What IF there had been NO back up files?? And needless to say I'm NOT happy with the shots I Did get...His eyes should be more in focus...oiy, I give up.....
Needless to say I learned a valuable lesson in those nano seconds...I say YES, much too easily...
So, if you will excuse me I have to begin my "Don't Push That Button", 100 times list...geez.

The setting, pose and lighting are good, Donna although I agree that the face could do with a little more sharpness. But it's not a bad shot by any means. Do you use flash or any other lighting?

Been there done that. Ha! Don't want the tee shirt. Glad you were able to recover them. I think that is a great shot!

Oh Donna! You poor thing. I can only imagine your heart about to explode! So glad you did upload them to your office computer! Here's a tip I use a lot. Buy another card for your camera. As soon as you are done shooting a session, take that card out and put in in a safe place in your camera bag. Put a blank card back into your camera so it's ready for other photos. Then as soon as you can, upload the photos to your computer and do not delete the ones on your card until you've release the images to the person you took them for. Keep shooting you are doing good and I kinda feel responsible for you looking for your ISO and White Balance! Yikes!!

Whew...so glad you were impatient and loaded the pics on your work computer! I'm always afraid to delete pics on my camera card in fear something may happen to computer. I really need to get a system to filing my pictures better.

You know I frequently curse windows7 because saved work disappears, never mind it told me it was saved...but as for what you do, I'd be totally in the dark...wouldn't have a clue...great pic btw...

I hate it when things like that happen. It really sets off the panic alarm for me
I think you do a great job with your photography but I can relate to the stress of doing pictures for other people. I prefer to do it for just my own enjoyment

Well, at least you copied them over to a computer before the mishaps, LOL! Please, please tell me than you have multiple cards! Heavens, they are so inexpensive! As soon as you finish one photo shoot, take the card out and put in a fresh one!!! EVERY TIME! And make sure that they are successfully on a computer AND on a backup drive before the original card gets "recycled" back to your camera.

And keep extra cards in your car! (LOL, learned that one the hard way, by going out on a photo shoot with no card in the camera.) Start some new habits!

You want to know how many cards I have? 12 16BG and one 8 GB. And I have labeled storage cases for them too.

LOL, I forgot to comment on the photo! You did a lovely job with it. You are too far away to bounce some light back to the left-hand side of his face with a reflector, but you could lighten it some more in photoshop. The biggest issue I see is what he is wearing - a white shirt. That really causes you meter to go nuts with bad readings and you end up having the shirt as one big hot-spot with the proper exposure on his face. Make it easier on yourself and ask these young people to NOT wear white shirts!

I love Donna (Cottage Days...) tips! I'm going to buy more cards. I do have an external backup, if only I'd remember to use that.

It's great that you're stretching your photography even more! *Hugs*

I think it's a great photo Donna! I, too, am very paranoid that I'll lose the pics I have taken and try to upload them to Picasa or Shutterfly just as soon as I can so I don't forget. You do a whole lot better than I do with the photo thing...I still use a point and shoot or my iphone!

I would die from the weight of responsibility if I tried to shoot someone's picture for SERIOUS! You're a brave woman. Good job.
