Kitties and Cake...and Rain.

There are THREE of these...
There are TWO of these...
There is none of this...I ate it....
And Libby feels totally  DEJECTED because we won't let her have a Kitty to play with.

What a weekend....When you think it's all going to be roses, it usually ends up to be mud.
I heard a meowing coming from the back door so I investigate.  I open the door, look down to see where the sound was coming from, only to see this kitty.  About three weeks old...looking up at me.  I heard MORE meowing coming from....the roof???  I get Larry and out we go to check it out...Sure enough, there's two more staring down at us from the carport roof.  Momma cat had had her babies under the eaves of the roof.  What are you 'gonna do?  Leave them?  Storms brewing and I mean bad ones?  We hadn't seen momma cat in over a week milling about the neighborhood so the prognosis for her return was...nil.  So, out comes the crate I had used for Libby, a trip to the store for a few supplies and food and we think we're set until today after one when the no kill shelter opens...BUTTT...Crystal has just informed me that there's a waiting list for drop-offs....super....  SO....anybody want a kitty?

The cake is a lemon sauce pound cake.  I LOVE lemon and it was Good and pretty easy to throw together.  Of course, I had lemon sauce icing all over me...I never can avoid, really getting into my baking!  Yes, I'm messy.

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend.  Storms, here in Texas, have been powerful.  We have NEVER seen it rain constantly for three weeks!  There have been some tragedies along with them.  A group of friends (not ours) were staying at a rented house in Wimberly when the floods hit.  Nine people washed away...A man's family, wife and two children missing...the family dog was found last night in a tree...alive!  So, at least the man's dog will be with him.  Such a sadness.

SO, here's hoping you all are safe and sound.  Coming to check on you after I get a refill on the coffee.

We've been seeing the flooding on TV. Rain, such a blessing for you guys but so tragic too! Lemon cake looks good and the kitties are so cute!

The words "lemon sauce" have me drooling. And I get into my baking with a vengeance too. I had chocolate frosting from my hairline to my elbows yesterday when making Erica's birthday cake! It was such fun! Lick lick lickety split! Now, being no stripe of a cat person, I cannot imagine what I'd do with kitties under the eaves. You are a better woman than I, taking them in so gently. I hope suitable owners are found soon. I love Libby so much, I want to hold her and pet her and hug her. xoxo

Cake looks yummy! Kitty adorable--I love kittens but sorry, I have more cats now than I can afford. And cute Libby. Rain. Enough. We've had enough for a few weeks I think.

Poor little kitties, hope they all find homes. Lemon pound cake sounds good.I put a little instant coffee in chocolate frosting and make a quick flavorful dessert with pound cake also.

So glad y'all were able to rescue the kittens. Hope it won't be long until you can take to the no kill shelter. I'm allergic to cats, so can't help you out.

I LOVE any kind of pound cake and that looks SO good. I had a cousin who made the very best sour cream pound cake.

You guys have had enough rain, for sure, and I feel so badly for the lives that were lost. So very, very sad.

xoxo

I would love to have a kitten but Wade says I can only have one if I get rid of the dog. I don't think he would object to me having lemon pound cake though :)

The reports of your weather has been awful. I read about that family today. I really, really hope they find them alive. Somewhere. Such horrible news.

Thanks for saving those kitties. I hope you find them a good home. Or maybe Libby can have some new friends????

My heart breaks when I think about that poor young mother and her two children missing in the floods. It was on our news bulletins here yesterday...so tragic. I do feel for that dear father...found alive after being washed 15kms away. How will he cope, the poor man. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how flooded Houston is/was. I hope you and yours are safe, dry and well, Donna. Take good care.

What a lovely little kitten...and as you said...what else could you do? :)

Libby has enjoyed a few games by now, I imagine. She'll get over her distress! lol Pugs are lovely. We had one when we were kids..."Whisky" we named him.

Btw...the cake looks delicious. I, too, love lemons. I've pulled a load of big fat juicy lemons off my tree and each morning I squeeze one or two into some water and I drink that with gusto before I do anything else! :)

Your Lemon Pound Cake has me craving one. I'll be sure to add lemons to my shopping list today : )
I hope you can easily find homes for those dear little kittens.

I haven't had breakfast and that cake looks scrumptious.

Too bad about the kitties.

Good for you to get some rain, but everything in moderation, eh?

Good luck with the remodelling (post below).

Poor little kittens! How bizarre that she went up into the eaves to have them. Hope you can find homes for them! Love that lemon cake. My mouth is watering!

So sad about all the storms in Texas. That one family was so tragic. All the losses were tragic, but I just felt so horrible for that man losing everyone. And they were on a family camping trip in a place I have driven by many times. They would think all would be well. How could they know. Just too sad.

You are a softie for taking in the kitties. I hope you have found them homes by now! Loved the look on Libby's face. The flooding in your state has sure been awful. So many heartbreaks.
