Cold Weather and Gumbo...

Well, it's been crazy weather here again this Winter.  High was 78F just two days ago now it's 36F.  Hubby and I have been cooking up a storm creating soups, stews and my favorite, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.  The last two weekends have been devoted to just cooking.  Makes it so nice to not have to worry about fighting rain or the cold at lunchtime at work!  I just defrost and heat and we're good to go.

It's tax time here in the States again.  I keep a hanging folder in my desk just for notices that arrive in the mail.  Things start arriving in the last quarter of the year and continue into February for us.  That also makes it easy to gather things together to take to our CPA.  No hunting or gnashing of teeth...just pull the folder and go.

Libby just wanted to say hello...She's had a bit of a snuffly nose this week.  Needing lots of extra TLC from us.
Well, guess that's about it for now.  Had a new privacy fence put in but that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel for news.  Hope you all have a wonderful and safe day!

New Cast Iron...

Hubby bought me the new cast iron grill I wanted yesterday from Bed Bath & Beyond.  All you do is rest it on existing gas or electric burners and you're good to go!  Well, I washed it, seasoned it, let it cool then tried to make pan cakes on it this morning...

What a mess that turned out to make!  Almost didn't think I was going to scrape the stuff off the iron!  I managed to get most of it off, threw on some eggs...they didn't stick!Hahaa
I give up...Any tips out there
Finally got a breakfast thrown together...wasn't bad!  So...how's your Sunday going so far?  Hope, better than mine!
Hubby and I have been cooking all weekend.  When you figure that it cost about 20 to 25 dollars for two people to eat out, you realize you need a back-up plan!  Cook!Hahaa....So, we've made soups,  ribs and a roast...oh and navy been stew.  Eating out is a treat anymore...it just cost too much to have someone else do all the work.  So now we're all set for next week.  I may try to do a couple of steaks on my new grill...if I can ever get it seasoned correctly!

Marathons...

What a weekend... Marathoning on Longmire and The X-Files!  We spent all day Saturday starting at 7:30am, on a really good series called Longmire.  Wyoming Sheriff...beautiful country, fun acting and "edge of your seat" situations.  We finished season three at about five that afternoon...

Then on Sunday... The X Files!  We needed a refresher course because the NEW, six episode series begins this month!  Can Not Wait to see Scully and Mulder again...
We binged on both of these on Netflix.  No commercials...Nice!
What else did we do...hummm....ate...slept...tv...Yep, that just about covers it...Hahaaa....
Hope you all spent a useless weekend as well.  I think we need those every once in a while just to recharge.
Hopping over to see you...Happy Monday guys!

Happy New Year...

Once again, a new page of our book, turns...2016.  Who would have 'thunk it.  What an amazing adventure huh?  I still remember being fifteen years old and thinking how old everyone around me seemed to be.  I'm sixty four now.....1965 brought us...Lyndon B. Johnson was in the White House, Viet Nam was raging, women's skirts were shorter and men's hair, longer.  Medicare was created...The soap opera, Days of Our Lives, debuted.  Doctor Zhivago is in the theaters...Pope Paul VI becomes the first Pope to visit the US and UK.  The Maple Leaf becomes Canada's new national flag symbol...The Great Train robber, Ronnie Biggs, escapes from Wandsworth Prison and flees to Brazil...Malcolm X is shot in New York...Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. leads civil rights march in Alabama from Selma to Montgomery...US begins airlifting Cubans wishing to leave Cuba and live in America...Cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov becomes the first person to walk in space...Major Edward H. White II becomes the second human to walk in space during the flight of Gemini 4...
Popular movies:   Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Goldfinger, My Fair Lady, Cat Ballou...
Popular books:   Dune, The Man with the Golden Gun, Hotel....
Popular musicians:  The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Animals, The Kinks, The Searchers, Moody Blues, Donovan, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, and my personal favorite, The Grateful Dead lead by Jerry Garcia...
My WORD!!  Where did it all go?  But I feel grateful to have been able to live through it all....At 15, all I knew was what existed in my world.  My car...my first job...getting through algebra and getting my chores done.  What will 2016 bring?
I use to laugh at all those jokes about the beauty contestant just wanting world peace...now, it doesn't seem so funny.
May God place His Hand on us all throughout this new year...may we be Blessed...and may there be, World Peace.
