The Baby Shower...45 years ago, Ouch and Getting There.

Good morning, Friends... Well, it's been an eventful week.  The baby shower for granddaughter, Samantha, was lovely.  And she was beautiful as ever.  Daughter Crystal drove up for the party and was a big hit with baby Sloane.  We all had our pictures taken with Sam... drank a little cucumber water...ate donuts...goodies lined the table.  I must say I didn't eat any of it...just had the water.  Sam got a lot of wonderful gifts, and she loved my quilt!  Made me feel so good... all that blood, sweat and tears were worth it. lol

Morning of the shower, I whipped up a pink pillowcase for our Sloane...I'm going to embroider an S on the sash...at least I'm going to attempt to...

Daughter Crystal (Sloane's Lolli ) Sloane and her other granny, Joycelyn (Honey).

Sloane got a few things, as well...

My sister Ruth Ann is talking to me again... fine with me.  I'm shutting my mouth...smiling a lot...nodding my head a lot...and making the effort to get along.  Anyway...she gave me this quilt top she "almost" finished 45 years ago...yes, it's that old.  Anyway, since her chemo treatments, she has lost feeling in her hands and can't sew anymore.  She said to take it home with me... she has no use for it.  I think she was just trying, in her own way, to be nice...anyway, I like to think so...
She gave me the scrap material that goes with it.  Hope I can fix it and finish the blocks.  The point row on the left side is missing...we'll see.... wish me luck.
Oh...just a tiny reminder...I'm not just writing a "quilting" blog!  I just happen to be starting my journey into the world of sewing and quilting...along with other things in my life.  Hobbies!  Gotta' stay active!
Speaking of active...Larry's Dad, Gerald was back in the hospital...a small blood clot at the IV injection site...but he was also exhibiting anger, delusions... memory loss...all in a big way.  After treatment, the hospital sent him BACK to the nursing home... sigh... The boys had a meeting with the officials of the center yesterday and it was decided that Dad wouldn't be going home...ever.  So... now it's long-term care at $6,000 grand a month...private pay...smh...A live-in person is at least $1,500 a Week here...so...that's where we are.
He didn't recognize Kenny, Larry's brother...

It's a beautiful pattern...and I've not seen bars that tiny.

I made Sloane a little Easter basket...

Warning!!!!
IF you're squeamish about blood...scroll by really fast!!

Our poor baby Sloane got her finger caught in the back door!  She was trying to pull it out before Sam could reach her!  They called the doctor's office but there wasn't a need to take her in, they said.  Sam shot them a photo but was told to just disinfect it and wrap it.
I get to keep her tomorrow...I'll see how bad it still is.  She's a country girl, for sure.

Well, I got a good start on my sewing room clean-up.  Got all my machines lined up... I'm glad to have gotten the serger...I'm so tired of all the fraying on the ends of my quilts!  I was pinking them with my shears, but my hand was killing me!  The serger is an Airflow 3000 by Brother.  No more hair-pulling because you can't get it threaded correctly!

Well, that's been my week...Hope yours has been a good one and you all are well and happy.  So... until next time...

Poor little Sloan. Her little finger looks bad. When things like this happens, you just want to cry with them. Enjoyed your post with a little bit of everything. Beautiful baby shower and beautiful family. All the quilts are beautiful. Glad you got to smile and nod to Ruth, and sorry Larry's Dad is back in the hospital and Ouch..$$$$ getting old is expensive. Poor baby with that smashed finger...after you wrap it, kiss it for me. That's the best medicine! Have a blessed Easter weekend. Sending hugs.

Getting old with any sort of health issue can get difficult and pricey.

Your sewing room looks wonderful. Very sad about him not being able to return home. Nice that she gave you the extra bits of fabric.

Sam's shower looks wonderful. She looks happy and ready for the second daughter to come. I'm glad you and your sister are talking once again. So nice that she gave you some quilting materials to use. I'm so sorry to hear about Larry's dad. That's good they all got together and talked with the professionals. Your sewing room is coming along nicely. You've done a lot with it, and it will be more organized for you. I'm sorry to hear about Sloane's little finger, and I hope it heals quickly. I don't like to see a child in pain.

Happy Easter to you, Donna.

Your quilt is so beautiful! Such a pretty gal your Sam is and Sloane is just perfect! $6,000 for a nursing home is a bargain, up here my Mom's care was $15,000 a month....worth it yes but very expensive.

Og that poor Sloane, looks rather painful and I bet he let our a might scream, hoping it mends well.
Interesting about the nursing home fees, not sure what it cost here.
Take care.

Hi Donna. Yes, macro and close up are the best. I've always shot those. That's where my heart lives. The flash though, that bit is new. Happy weekend!

I'm sorry to hear about Larry's Dad, too. Those nursing home fees are through the roof, and I thought is was expensive here!
The pattern of your sister's quilt is gorgeous. I can't believe she left it 45 years, though. xxx

Poor little Sloane. That must really hurt.
The shower was a big success it seems.
Your sewing room is so organized!!
It's sad when our elders need to go into care homes. Expensive too.

I am always so impressed by people who make quilts. I had a bad experience with a sewing machine in high school Home Ec, and I have been afraid of them ever since. Happy Easter to you and your family. I’m glad the shower went well.

Beautiful quilting, beautiful family time with sad news for Larry’s Dad. You can’t fix everything, much as you’d like to, but I am sure you will fix your sister’s delayed quilt and little Sloane will heal. Happy Easter to you all. x

Thank you for the beautiful photos.
Glad to see them.
The quilt top with the narrow stripes is beautiful.
I hope you enjoy your sewing room – we had two days of rain, and I was sewing and cooking. Tomorrow the sun will shine again, and we'll celebrate Easter until Monday.
Happy Easter to you and your loved ones.
Best wishes from Viola

The baby shower for your granddaughter Samantha must have been a beautiful celebration, and it's heartwarming to hear that your quilt was a hit! It’s also touching how you're working on your sister’s quilt top—it’s a lovely way to honor her gift. I hope you have success finishing it. As for the family struggles, it's tough to watch loved ones face health challenges, but it seems like you're handling everything with grace and care. Wishing you continued strength on this journey!
