Rain...Dresden Plate, Greatgrans and Food

Good morning, Friends....

It's been rather a longish week...The rainstorms laced with a few tornados haven't been much fun.  All kinds of alerts have been sending our phones into orbit!  Seems there's an alert every five seconds...but not really.  A "cold front" rolled in again yesterday with temps in the low to mid 70's again.  I like it but it causes so much fallout when it happens. Rain forecasted all week.  So, I'm hibernating in my little sewing room creating a new (to me) quilt.  The Dresden Plate.  I've seen them (gorgeous) so I decided with my "newbie" sense of direction, to try the pattern.  So far, I've only gotten half a plate done but will begin again this morning.

Our sweet baby Sloane...her finger is healing nicely.... she no longer favors it.

Our sweet great-gran Sydney, and Papa Tylar.

She is SO loved...

We love sweet corn...as you can probably tell.  It's a wonder that our skin hasn't turned bright yellow yet!  Anyway, I paired it with air fryer chicken...delicious.

Then, it was time for us to be realllllly bad.  Dairy Queen cheeseburgers, fries and a Coke.

I experimented with doing eggs in the air fryer...well...I don't think so.  I over cooked them.

We drove South to my favorite quilting store, The Fabric Barn in Rosebud, Texas.  After the visit and dropping of a few dollars...lol...we decided we would splurge on lunch at the Hwy 77 Cafe.  It's a unique little place with pretty good food...not fantastic, but good...very country, which we like.

They have lined the walls with pictures of all the soldiers from Rosebud and the wars they've fought in.  It's very patriotic but the one that caught our eyes was the Confederate soldier #380.  The waitress said they knew his name, but she didn't immediately know what it was.  It was on some list that the manager kept...oh well...he's very distinguished looking.  I wonder if he lived through that horrible war...

Chicken Fried Steak...okra and mashed potato.

Mushroom & Onion gravy steak with green beans

Well, I suppose that's about all from my world, this week.  I hope you all are safe and happy and well...so, until next time...

Good morning...I had to look up and see where Rose Bud Texas is... South of my County (Henderson County). Corn is one of my favs..and I cheat just a little because I always add 1/2 sugar to my corn when it is cooking.. You have a beautiful talent and I will be excited to see this quilt when you finish it.. Quilts are my weakness, even though I do not know how to make one. One can never have too many quilts can they..lol. The girls are so precious and goodness, I know you all love it when they come by. Once again, everything is so pretty on your blog post..so refreshing to stop by...

From Texas - Shug is too. I love y'alls blogs.
So are you experiencing Cicada's and Crane Flies now? I went to Ohio once and experienced the Cicada's. We have Crane flies - I didn't know they didn't bite.
I think Sloane and Sydney are so precious. I am going to have a great-gran girl in September, but I know they won't let me put a picture on her on here. :(
That Hwy 77 Cafe - I do love country cooking.
I don't have an air fryer - but the eggs looked good to me.
Lastly it was interesting about the Ottoman Empire. I am going to look up and see when it was.
Love, sandie/chatty

Donna, first of all, I love your new blog design! Since you are getting lots of rain, it's a nice idea to be in your sewing room creating something wonderful. You know, Nel used to hear the Cicadas every night when she lived in Georgia. She thought it was the neatest thing. And Yes, I knew about those big mosquitos; I try to just let them be. Your food always makes my mouth water. And we do have to treat ourselves to Dairy Queen sometimes, right? That's so interesting about the door knockers. I'll pass that on to my son. He loves history. I hope your new quilt project turns out well for you.

Wishing you wonderful May days, Donna.

**oh, every time I see those Singer sewing machines, it makes me smile. My mom made most of my clothes growing up. ; )

Lovely work on the Dresden plate! That is one traditional pattern that I like. I love to see your quilting news. :) Oh...and the bug news too. Cicadas are a great source of protein for many animals. When they surge, so to animal populations because they are an awesome food source for so many. I don't think people appreciate those wacky bugs like they should.

I love those precious photos of Sloane and Sydney. Such beautiful little ones. We don't have cicadas here in No. CA but have heard them..pretty noisy for sure.
Your quilt is going to be a masterpiece. Wow, the patience it takes to do that..I sure don't have it!
Your food pics. always make me hungry..I'm afraid I'm going to have to do some "grazing" in the kitchen now since its lunch time. (((hugs)))

I have no idea if my first comment got through but in case it didn't.... The Dresden Plate quilt seems like quite a big project and will keep you busy for a while. The piece you've done is lovely. I love the various fabrics you've chosen.

Ugh on the tornado warnings. I hate severe storms. Very interesting on the door knockers. That cafe is a nice tribute to all of their soldiers. The food looked good too! I dont have n air fryer, but sometimes I wish I did. Janice

Sloane and Sydney are such precious little girls.
The wall art in Hwy 77 cafe is pretty unique with its memory wall of soldiers from Rosebud.
Your new stitching project is already looking great and I look forward to seeing the finished design.
Have a lovely week ahead at the start of May.

What a lovely post. I've missed to many. I will scroll up and down and enjoy each of your pictures today. So many beauties, from that darling newborn, Sloane and her little finger getting better, to amazing quilt pattern, and of course the food makes me drool all over my keyboard. I'm learning and getting better at our Airfryer. Really love it. Have a wonderful week. Hugs

I'm loving your new quilt.
It's pleasing to read Sloane's finger is improving, must been really sore.
Food looks good, and we don't eat much corn here, but we do eat a lot of potatoes in this house..lol

Your food posts are always tempting! The air fryer chicken with sweet corn looks so good, and I love how you balance a healthy meal with a treat from Dairy Queen. Sometimes, those little indulgences are the best.

I also loved reading about your trip to The Fabric Barn and your lunch at the Hwy 77 Cafe. The history they honor with their wall of soldiers is very touching—especially the Confederate soldier #380. It’s fascinating to think about the stories those old photographs could tell.

I’ve just written a new post about building body confidence, and I’d love for you to check it out when you have a moment. Here’s the link: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/05/body-confident-you-body-confident-kid-book-review.html.

Wishing you a peaceful and productive week ahead.

Donna what great information concerning the cicadas...they may be ugly but how beneficial to our ecosystem. Also that large mosquito looks like he would bit but happy to know he is harmless. That Sloane is getting so big and what a precious baby gran. Love your quilt pattern...will be anxious to see it finished. Well take care and have a super day. Hugs!

It's wise to hunker down in your cozy sewing room and focus on a creative project. The Dresden Plate is a beautiful quilt pattern, and it's exciting that you're tackling it. Enjoy the process, and hopefully, the weather will calm down soon. The food looks tasty.

I am not sure what the craze for air fryers is, but then I have hardly embraced the mobile phone. We just bought a microwave for our Italian house after 20+ years. Obviously I am not a gadget girl.

That is going to be a beautiful quilt! That is a interesting restaurant! I too wonder if that confederate soldier lived. Love the pics of those beautiful greatgrands!
