Good morning friends! Another week...thank God we got to wake up to see it roll by!
Larry has one Uncle left in this world. Cantankerous by nature...foul mouthed and not a pleasure to be in his presence. He and his brother Gerald (Larry's dad) rarely had anything to do with each other although, Gerald did make the effort...rarely worked. Now Harvey is having troubles with his dementia. I had a long chat with his DIL yesterday and they had to put Harvey into a place for "memory rehab"... Well, there'll be no "rehabbing" him. They tried several solutions, but nothing worked, so it's the nursing home for him. He has a nasty disposition ... meds really only affect his heart so they can't just give him anything. He's acting out...pinching the aide's butts...hugging inappropriately and sliding out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles. The family gets a mixed set of reviews from him...some he downright tells to get out...some he tolerates and one in particular, he likes. Larry and I haven't gone to visit yet...unsure of the reception...lol
In other news, we've started the house painting job. We really like it...black and white. They are supposed to finish up today, so I'll take some shots later and post. We'll get a landscaper out to give an estimate on working on the yard...I want Sage shrubs in front. They are dry weather tolerant...plus they bloom.
In other news...
I got greatgran Sloane's quilt back from the longarm lady. I think it turned out really nice. Hope she likes it...maybe she'll even think of me on occasion when she's grown up.
The backing...
A new block pattern prototype...I keep it in front of me, so I don't get turned around!
Then, I've sent Crystal's quilt to be worked on by the longarmer...It'll be several weeks before it's ready.
Now, I'm starting a quilt for granddaughter Samantha. She likes more traditional colors like greys, tans and browns. I found this Double Friendship Star pattern and liked it. I only need to make 14 more blocks...
Last story about quilting, today! Promise! lol
Laura...my sister Ruth's ex-hubby's wife, Laura (got that? lol) , has had a terrible time of it lately. 3 surgeries on her back have left her in terrible pain. A metal rod support snapped and broke (the thing that holds rods in one's back, in place).
Anyway, she's had this material for four years...her SIL Lisa, promised to make her a quilt but reneged on the deal...treated her badly and hurt Laura's feelings on top of abandoning Laura when she most needed help when recuperating from all the surgeries. In a lot of families there are some members that run at the first sign of having to help out others...fact...you learned it here...you're welcome. lol
Okay...so I'm a sucker for tears... I have really tried to distance myself from my sister because nothing I do pleases her. I still try to help out...some...but sister and Laura stopped by the other day (that in of itself, being a shock) and layed this all on me (making her a quilt), I couldn't say no...and yes, I was "set-up". Some things are just that obvious. But I told her she'd have to get in line. I'm working on other projects right now and it would be a while before I could get to her quilt. That's her material in the above photo. Pretty colors...still thinking about an easy yet quick queen size pattern. Any ideas??
This was Halloween afternoon...Lolli, Pops...Lottie and Sloane ready to attack the neighborhood! We bought Tim's short set last Christmas as a joke...he wore it as his costume...lol, He was some hick fisherman...
And lastly, we had to buy Libby a new bed...we think she likes it! lol Buddy sniffed it and moved along most unimpressed.
I'll end your pain, in having to read my boring adventures, with saying... I hope you all are well or at least getting there! Stay safe!
Until next time...

Beautiful quilts! I lve the label on the one for Sloane. She will cherish it forever! Boy, little Lottie sure does look like her mama! xo
Very, very nice fabric. You made me smile when you wrote, get in line. Ha! You're funny. Though I'm very sorry to read about the grumpy guy with the memory issues. That's not fun. Though the new truck looks like a lot of fun. Wishing you a groovy weekend. Cheers, Ivy.
Grouchy family members is a hard cross to bare. It's so sad and hard on the caregiver. (((hugs)))
Love the photos of those sweet girls and your quilts are magnificent. Get to your sister's when you can..Get in line..the perfect answer.
Sue
Donna, those quilts are amazing! Absolutely stunning!
And your food pictures...well, I say it every time, but they make my mouth water!
Your quilts are all beautiful. Yep, I would definitely say that your sister and her ex's wife tricked you into making a quilt. Good for you saying they would have to get in line.
Sounds like Larry's uncle is quite the handful.
That one about the wifi network name cracked me up. There is one with that name that comes up in my list of available networks.
You are going to be very busy making all those quilts. the ones you have shown are lovely - how about stars!
I like the new vehicles, nice colour too.
The Uncle doesn't sound the best like that but guess he can't really help it.
Take care.
Good luck with the uncle. That would be hard for sure. You always do such a great job with your quilting. Your new black and white scheme will be perfect. Janice
I like the quilt stories! You are a saint: I don't make quilts for others by request...and I won't do it with fabrics that they choose. Most times it is butt ugly and I cannot, for the life of me, work with poor quality fabric or fabric I don't love. Color me "mean", but if you want a quilt, you need to pay someone for their time, machine wear, thread, etc. ....and that is where you lose them. Everyone thinks quilting is a cheap and easy hobby.
Ooops. Sorry for the rant. LOVE the quilts you make, the sweet girlies, and the house painting project. It's going to be so nice when it is done!
So interesting...the patterns are very nice. The food pics look yum
You and Larry both have good hearts and even with those 'uncle difficulties', I know you will make it through that particular maze . Special hugs to you both.
House is looking very smart in black and white ans when you get the pots planted up, it will look fantastic. You reminded me that I need to pressure wash our drive very soon!
Lovely to see all the quilts, they look fantastic and I know they will be greatly treasured by your family.
Sweet photo of Sloane and Lottie. Goodness! How they have grown.
Thank you for sharing your adventures this week. Always love visiting you. Take care x
Dementia is a heartbreaking condition, but even so I would hesitate to visit Harvey as well...
Sloane's quilt is a true work of art, which I'm sure she'll treasure forever. You've got a real talent, no wonder you are so in demand!
Loving the Halloween costumes! xxx
Those quilts! My goodness! Beautiful!
Those quilts are beautiful and very, very special.
Love the Halloween picture of Lolli, Pops, Lottie and Sloane.
Take care, sending my good wishes.
All the best Jan
Such pretty quilting projects! That will keep you busy for a long time!
Your quilts are just darling! I'm sure your granddaughters will absolutely love and cherish them, always. Stay warm this autumn!
Oh my Donna your quilts are gorgeous. I am sure Baby Sloane will want to keep the one you made her and will be reminded of how much she was loved by her great grandma. My dear grandma made me a beautiful blue one when I got married and I treasure it most highly. Hope Larry's uncle will receive your visit well. He does sound like he might be a handful! :)! Take care friend. Hugs!
I love the inscription on the quilt:) The house is looking great.
Hugs
Like Sandra I love the inscription on the quilt it’s a very good idea. The quilt are beautifully made. Love the Halloween 🎃 girls so cute.
Larry sounds quite a handful. In some ways I feel sorry for people like him, but sorrier for their caretakers because they are the real heroes. Dementia is a cruel disease. Your quilts are gorgeous, and that special label for Sloane, is a family treasure! I bet she’s making a great big sister already. Loved everyone’s Halloween Costumes and the food you always share looks really yummy. I hope the rest of your week is a good one.
Lotti and Sloane are so sweet - even in Halloween-look :)
I'm so sorry about some bad situations in your far-family. It is not easy to stand firm and to hold the faith.
Your quilts are more than wonderful! What great, nearly incredible presents!
Many greetings and blessings to you all from Dori rom the Bavarian Forest
Was für tolle, fast unglaubliche Geschenke! Herzliche Grüße und alles Gute von Dori aus dem Bayerischen Wald.
Thanks Sandra…The longarm lady added a comma before Crystal’s name… it bugs me…lol… will probaprobably pick it out.
One of our first homes was white with black shutters. I loved that place but we outgrew it. Choosing drought-resistant Sage sounds like a great idea.
The quilt you made for Sloane is beautiful and the backing is amazing. I just love the fabric you chose ( and the precious inscription).
Such a lovely photo of the roses on the table! How incredibly sad that someone can be so cantankerous and unpleasant that it makes it hard to get them good care. I hope someone can help with his issues. Hope your house renovations turn out well. Such pretty quilts and quilting. The fabric is lovely. Such a sweet Halloween family photo. The little ones are precious!
I always love seeing your beautiful quilts, Donna, and your beautiful family pictures. Your babies are growing! Have a lovely weekend!
The quilts are bwautiful, the girls are beautiful and the food looks delicious.
The uncle sounds a lot like my late father in law, he went out of his way to be nasty. Beyond me why people have to be like that but fortunately there are so many nice people in the world.
Oh my gosh, I'm sending Larry and his family so much strength right now. Dealing with dementia is tough enough, but a "cantankerous," foul-mouthed uncle who's pinching butts and making an "escape" with his pants down? That's giving major drama, but also a tiny bit of dark comedy, haha! The DIL deserves a medal, and it's totally understandable why you're being cautious about visiting. You have to protect your peace.
I'm absolutely smitten with the adorable photo of Sloane and Lottie.
The quilt for Sloane is beautiful; she'll treasure it.
I hope you have lots of fun working on your next...
Warm regards.
Viola
