Good morning, Friends! Well, it's been a few weeks since I posted but, I made it home. The kids...aka... Crystal and Tim, spent a luxurious four days in Cancun...resting? Seems it also involves some, shmoozing with the bossman and maybe a few potential clients. So... the trip wasn't so much, a restful one. But the views were wonderful.
Meanwhile...SORRY the food court is at the beginning of the post! I thought I might try to move all the photos to the bottom, where they belong...but...not happening. I must admit that this morning I'm just too tired to care.
A broccoli and chicken with pasta treat...
We found a cafe in the small town of Oglesby, TX.
Chicken Fried Steak! REAL homemade gravy... Larry ordered green beans and mashed potatoes and I ordered fried okra and mash... just omg... It was heaven! Real food! And a lot of it...
I made breakfast....
And lunch... ribs and peas!
I took this Cyclamen...made oatmeal cookies... and Banana Pudding for Crystal's Mother's Day gift. Naturally, Tim claimed test-taster's rights.
And these are the precious cargo I traveled two hours to babysit. My favorite, Toby the Boxer...a real ham. He lets me discuss all sorts of things...helps me delve into my soul... then wants a cookie...lol
Sophie the Guardian ...she's a tiny bit reserved...
And there's Bo, on the back of the sofa...Ruler of Said Territories.
This was waiting on me when I arrived! A beautiful plant and homemade chocolate covered peanuts, one of my favorites!
Crystal arranged me a small area so I could continue making quilt blocks for my newest project...
The pattern is called, Exploding Pineapple...and trust me when I say...I fully understand the creator's mood when she made it...lolol
I have finished it now...
I think I'll try doing Applique along the sashing... never tried it before! Wish me luck.
Meanwhile...
I finally got the previous quilt back from the longarmer...I think it turned out nicely!
The longarmer made the label for me...my wording.... It cost $25 dollars...I am looking on Canva how to make my own, printed on fabric.
Our precious greatgrands, Lottie and Sloane!
Sloane checking over the price of things these days... I feel 'ya Baby!
Well, I suppose that's all the news from here, that I have to report.
Here's hoping you all are well and safe and Blessed!
Have a wonderful weekend!
hugs,
Donna

I love your post - makes me smile. The food looked good. Gee - they had a huge dog and a tiny dog. Where was your dog? The girls are soooooooooooooo incredibly cute and adorable. I am shocked at the prices of food too.
Lottie and Sloane are growing too quick! I love that pic of Sloane with the receipt.
The quilts are so pretty and I really like your label.
Your food always looks restaurant worthy.
How wonderful that you could dog sit for those precious dogs:)
Wonderful pictures of a wonderful time. Welcome back home, and enjoy a good rest.
I admired all the quilts, and I am especially happy to see the children.
Warm regards to you.
Welcome back. you were missed. I love the photos of your sweet Grands, especially the one of her looking at the receipt.
The expression on Toby's face is priceless.
Wow your quilts are stunning. Glad you could finish them.
I guess I am such a music nerd that I loved the Lawrence Welk Show. My Mom and I watched it faithfully. Song and dance were and are my thing.
Relax and now you need a vacation to recover from your "vacation"
Sue

Such a fun post today. Loved all the pictures and especially the granddogs and the food court...yummy. The quilts are beyond awesome! You are such a talented and creative person. I love the personalized label. Makes it special for whoever receives one of your masterpieces. Love and Hugs.
That quilt is beautiful, well done. The girls are as cute as ever and the food makes my mouth water.
Beginning to end your posts are always delightful. The food looks delicious. The quilts are beautiful. The dogs all look like they would be great to spend time with. I'm sure you enjoyed every second.
Welcome back, the dogs are gorgeous as is the food.
Yor quilt is magic and I love it.
Sloane wearing those glasses is just so adorable. Made me smile. As kids we were forced to watch many shows. We survived. LOL Janice
Welcome back, it was nice to see you post, smiles. Thank you for the many smiles. Wishing you a beautiful day.
I always leave your post with a heart full of joy....I mean, delicious looking meals that makes my mouth water, family and lots of family life... These all bless me.
Welcome back and what a lovely post.
Nice to see the dogs ...
Sloane and Lottie are just adorable ...
Beautiful quilt ...
Tasty food ...
Have a great weekend.
All the best Jan
The quilts are beautiful! Boy...you are knocking them out lately!! :) Love the dog therapist. Criminy, he should be charging more than just a treat! Nice of you to go and watch them. It's so nice when the pets can stay at home versus being boarded.
Oh, the Lawrence Welk quote was funny. I remember watching a few episodes myself. I really like how your quilt turned out with the soft colors. And it's always a nice touch when you have the words put on there. Nice Mother's Day gifts. The chicken fried steak looks really good with the homemade gravy. And I always enjoy a good chicken and pasta dish. I'm glad you're home safe and sound, and I'm sure looking after those dogs was a great help to your family, Donna.
Grand girls are super cute! All the food looks really good!
Lottie and Sloane are adorable. I remember Lawrence Welk, I used to watch it every weekend with my in-laws...a one and a two...and his instrumental of Ghost Riders in the Sky was one an all-time great in my humble opinion. Your quilting, always a pleasure , and your food always fun to see too. Those pups you looked after are very cute.
The 'previous' quilt is a beauty and the next one with the exploding pineapple pattern looks like it will also be. You have a talent for making lovely quilts.
You've obviously been busy in the kitchen as well. So much delicious-looking food!!
Take good care💗
Your quilt turned out great, it's beautiful. Love seeing the dogs, little Bo runs the show and has everything in order, his order. :) The food looks delicious and Sloane and Loti are cute and growing fast. Have a wonderful week, Donna.
You and Crystal are very thoughtful women. Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time. I love boxers. Great dogs and I'm a cat person. Heh. Take special care.
Broccoli and chicken with pasta looks so good. I just met with a chiropractor for my herniated disc. I could use a pick-me-up. I am going to ask my hubby to make this for me tonight.
Those dogs have such personality. it must have been fun to spend time with them.
It looks like both you and Crystal had some lovely things to celebrate Mothers day ❤️
No post would be complete without two cute little girls. So adorable.
Your quilts are beautiful, Donna. So special with the message added to the corner.
Have a lovely day x
All of your food looks so good. That chicken fried steak is something I’ve been craving for a while. Looking at the photos I’m sorry I let a 40% off coupon for GrubHub lapse. I’m envious that you get the dog sit. I love dogs, but I never get the opportunity.
The girls are darling. They decided to get dogs in all sizes lol.
Your quilts are beautiful.
Cathy
Donna such a great post...the two pooches look like they were well behaved for their baby-sitters. Meals looked good too. The cyclamen plant is gorgeous...hope you enjoy it for many months to come. Well thanks for sharing your time away from home. Have a lovely week. Hugs!
I love the chicken meme. Sooo cute. Hugs
Oh Donna that granny squares quilt is just WONDERFUL!!! Love it. The pineapple one is pretty too but I am so drawn to the second one. I cannot make banana pudding or be anywhere near it because my power to resist it is nil. All your food looks so good. Sloane and Lottie are precious and also Crystal and Tim's puppies!!!! So darling!!! Mother and Henry used to watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday evenings (I think) and if I was there I simply could not believe that they enjoyed that. It's just ridiculous IMO (although I do long for simpler times when there seemed to be more innocence) ... I guess it's a generational thing, hahaa! xoxo Love you girl 🏴☠️
I love the little glasses. OMG. So cute. Love the sewing table and all your wonderful quilting work. And those pups. So stinkin' cute.
That chicken fried steak and homemade gravy honestly made me pause, there’s just something about a proper, no-shortcuts meal like that that brings back a kind of food memory you do not forget. The broccoli chicken pasta and ribs with peas added that lovely balance of “real life cooking” that feels so familiar and grounding. Do you find yourself leaning more toward those simple meals when life gets busy, or is it just how the day unfolds?
The pups completely stole their moment too. Toby sounds like such a character, the kind of companion who listens like he understands every word and then immediately negotiates for snacks. Sophie being quietly reserved and Bo ruling from the sofa feels like a perfect little household ecosystem.
The quilt work also stood out in a big way. “Exploding Pineapple” is quite the name, and it made me smile imagining the process behind it. There’s something so steady and traditional about quilting that feels deeply reassuring, especially when trying something new like applique along the sashing. That curiosity to try new techniques while still staying rooted in familiar craft is lovely to see. The finished quilt and label detail sound like something made with real care and pride.
The little details, like the plant and homemade chocolate covered peanuts waiting for you, add such a warm touch to the whole visit. Those are the kinds of gestures that stay with you longer than the trip itself.
The great grands at the end were a sweet note to close on. Sloane checking prices like that is a whole mood, far wiser than their age should allow.
There’s a steady, homely rhythm throughout this whole post, food, family, fabric, and small moments of joy woven together. What are you thinking of trying next after applique?
I love your posts. They make me happy. The food looks delicious, too.
Hello Donna! It's been crazy busy around here and I've not been able to do a lot of blog reading. I'm happy to have stopped by and learn that you made it back home all safe and sound. That picture of Sloane looking over the grocery receipt just cracks me up. Does she have an old soul? Both girls are growing up so quickly.
Your food pictures are amazing!
I believe Dori from The Black Forest is one of your followers and if you've been following her blog you will have noticed that she's not posted for almost a month. I'm worried about her and I wondered if you had any idea what's happening at her end.
