Good Morning Friends... I've been busy doing a lot of nothing. Time certainly can get away from you! I hadn't intended to be away so long...
What news...let's see...I found a journal that I had bought years ago with the intention of writing in it daily. Well, you know what they say about good intentions...lol... but...at long last I've decided it's never too late to begin. Or, like that old Cole Porter song, Begin the Beguine...and it must be sung by Johnny Mathis! lol
Granddaughter Samantha with hubby Everett...baby Sloane and, still cooking baby girl, Lottie? Don't know for sure yet...
This is so true! I refuse to let myself go...Gotta' keep trying. Hopefully, RFK Jr can get the harmful, additive and poisonous ingredients out of our food! Get some popcorn (real buttered) because it's going to be a fight! No other country on the planet, has in their food what we do!
I added Mickey Mouse for Sloane, in the front mudroom. She likes Mickey and Minnie...
Here's some neat and easy cakes you can make for the holidays... or whenever!
Do you remember the potholder loom? Well, I bought a kit the other day and made a few. My mother made the blue and white one on the left, years ago. It's getting worn and almost unmanageably dirty even though I use bleach on it when I wash. It's needing to be retired and let the new ones take over. It's a good memory...
Here we go, again!
Made Texas Chili without beans! We don't "do" beans in our chili...alongside, some scratch cheesy cornbread.
"Fried" chicken (crushed pork rinds and some cornstarch for the breading). Did the thighs in the air fryer.
Larry made corn, pork and potatoes, au gratin...tasted really good but made me gain 6 ozs! Bad Donna! lol
This meal plus a cinnamon roll and no walking will add the pounds.
Too true...People are like dominoes... Tell one a story then the rest say the same thing...over and over. SO many of our gluten-free foods still contain gluten...
Well, I suppose I'll get off of here and let you get back to doing what you were doing... I hope you all have a sweet and happy weekend so, until next time...

You serve some nice looking dishes.
That's great news on Texas! I'm hoping RFK can make some changes too. Crazy what goes on here.
I have chili in the crock pot right now - with beans! I love the beans. :)
You have been a busy girl! First of all, I love that journal. Like you, I have been doing a bit of cleaning (actually looking for Christmas decorations) and have come across more than one journal. I do plan to start writing in them. On the other hand, I discovered four journals I had written in about 25 years ago, started reading them, and thought gosh what a crank I was back then. LOL! Second, absolutely we need to get the chemicals out of our food. Every time my husband and I would go to Europe, we were eating constantly, and ended up losing weight while we were over there.
I made some of those potholders years ago, it was a fun thing to do! I believe that there is so much cross contamination in gluten free foods that nothing is safe anymore:(
I thrilled that Texas is bringing back the Bible in schools. I remember my second grade teacher read a Psalm every morning and prayed for the day. We are getting an air-fryer, and I'm so excited as your food always looks so good. Love your posts and seeing your home and family!
Thanks for the smiles. Wishing you a beautiful evening.
It's way past my bedtime but I'm still reading blogs and having read yours and seen the pictures of food I'm hungry!!! I haven't made corn chowder in years and cinnamon buns are just what I'm wanting now.
Lovely photos of food and family.
I'm sitting here doing this comment in a city and I can hear a cow moo...no kidding! There is farmland not too far away must be coming from there as the breeze blows!
Love the AI wreath, it's beautiful, Donna.
Take care.
That would be nice if they can change things as far as all the additives in our food.
It's never too late to start, and it sounds like you're enjoying the process! Love the nostalgia of discovering old journals and the Johnny Mathis reference—such a classic! You’re invited to read my blog posts whenever you like!
I have never had chili without lots of beans in it.. I have had chili with only beans and no meat. love that photo of Sam and Sloane. the Minnie is adorable and very festive...
Its always a treat to come here and catch up on your life happenings. Your food looks delicious...now I'm hungry for those rolls and some chilli too.
I really do hope RFK can get our food back in the pure line again.
Dear sweet Sloane and Sam..love it.
Sue
That journal is lovely and definitely needs to be filled by you! I started mine at the start of the pandemic and I'm so glad I did. Although I'm doing it on the computer, I've always got a notebook with me ...
Gorgeous photos of Samantha and her family!
Your pot holders are lovely and that Chili is looking very taste, even without the beans :-) xxx
The cinnamon roll looks very very tempting. :) Have a wonderful week, Donna.
I had to laugh when you said "I've been busy doing a lot of nothing." when you've actually shared a good variety of what you have been doing!
I agree with Bill, those cinnamon rolls do look good and very tempting.
Wishing you a good week ahead.
All the best Jan
Hello there, Donna....I'm hungry now after looking at all that delicious food! :)
When my late brother and I were kids we went off to Sunday School every Sunday morning. At school every Monday morning one of the Presbyterian Minister came to our classes to teach the kids respect for others, and for one's own self; and other religious instructions matters.
Back in the early 70s I saw Johnny Mathis live in concert at Brisbane's Festival Hall. He was wonderful, wonderful! :) One of the first records my brother bought when he bought his little portable record player after he began is first job was the Johnny Mathis album, "Wonderful! Wonderful!" We had that album for years and years. We probably wore it out! :)
Take good care.
Hi Donna. I'm with you, we need to get the harmful additives out of our food. I'm all for teaching the Bible in school - many kids today have not moral compass and don't seem to know right from wrong. They are never taught at home, and what is taught in school is very messed up. I love that chart that shows different kinds of Soda Cakes - I have made the cake with Coke and Dr. Pepper, and may try some of the others too. Your chili looks delicious. Email me your address and I will send you a Christmas card and put you on my card list! Have a great week. See you again soon!
I LOVE the nostalgic photos with Samantha VERY much! I also love the decoration with the great deers - last photo. And between al the pictures always something fine to eat! I get hungry like Granny Marigold :))))) Its also time to go to bed here now. Have a blessed Christmastime with your wonderful family and don't work too much, but know, you will work VERY much, dear heart of the middle of your family. Many greetings and blessings to you from Dori from the Bavarian Forest
Yes I hope RFK can do what desperately needs to be done with the food in our country! All the food looks delicious buddy! I wish it was as easy to lose weight as it is to gain! XO
Hello Donna! Thanks for your comment on my blog and how sweet that your Dad was a Chiropractor! My hubby will miss his wonderful patients but it's time to relax more! Anyway, your blog is beautiful and so many yummy recipes! I will follow and be back again! Have a wonderful Christmas and New year!
Hi Donna! It was so nice catching up with you and seeing pictures of family and food. Those cranberry no bake cookies look so good. I often wonder about the gluten thing, too. Something we never heard about back in the day! Enjoy your Christmas time with your family. ♥️
Loving the photos of Sloane with her mom and dad. She will make a great big sister. So much to see in your posts and I have enjoyed going through. Food, funnies and food for thought. Plus I love your AI photos. Wishing you all the Merriest Christmas and A Very Happy and Blessed New Year. This in case I don’t get back before next week but hoping to because I always enjoy your posts. Thank you also for visiting me.
Nice pictures of Sloane and her parents.
I try to cook home made nearly all the time and try to know where the ingredients come from.
Your dishes look very tasty!
I wish you a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones.
I hope RFK Jr. doesn't get ahold of those cake mixes and sodas before I can make one of those cake and soda combinations, hahaha! And I will be making those praline cookies. Thanks for that! xoxo
I'm excited for the Bible to be brought back to schools. Let's hope they can teach it correctly. And maybe more states will follow suite. Texas is such a leader, you know:) You put the photo of those amazing looking cinnamon rolls sooo close to the reality check photo of 2024. Oh my. And, yes, isn't it disgusting all that is allowed in our food!! Great visit...thanks as always!!
The food on here looks so delicious, especially the chili and cheesy cornbread. I didn't realize you don't add beans to your chili. Gotta have beans in ours. Larry's dish looks really good too. Love the casual picture of Sam playing with Sloane. It's so nice to hear you still send Christmas cards out. I did that for years, but since we don't have a printer place up here to send the picture, I have been doing an e-mail Christmas card. Cards in the mail, like you do, are so much better. I'm so glad to hear that the Bible will be included in public school there. I remember those potholders. You did a nice job on them. I just came across a crocheted doily that my grandmother made. They are so special, aren't they, even if they are worn and faded? And we love Mickey in this house too! That is the cutest Mickey decoration you bought.
Your post was filled with lots of Christmas cheer Donna. : )

It's wonderful to hear you're starting your journaling journey—better late than never, right? Journals have such a unique way of capturing memories, and it's always special to rediscover one you've had for years. It sounds like a cozy blend of nostalgia and new beginnings! And yes, Johnny Mathis' "Begin the Beguine" definitely adds a touch of magic to that thought!
Wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with joy and inspiration for your journaling adventures! 🎄
Love the look of your meals.
Do you have a Perkins? Back in the day they served pie and coffee throughout the day. I haven't been there in years. Did grow up around diners though. Breakfast any time of day!
