Paid it Forward...

Sometime last week I was making my rounds on blog reading. On SOMEONE'S blog...(If it's You, please let me know), I read that some unknown person had paid for said Blogger's purchase and left before they were able to be thanked. Said Blogger thought this was a wonderful idea...well...Saturday, I had to go back into town to finish up on a few errands. I left the house at 6:45am. I had only had time for a quick coffee before I left the house. Now, if you know me, you'll know that ONE quick coffee just won't DO!Hahaaa....SO, I decide to pull into the Jack in the Box for a nice, hot cuppa. I was third in line when I pulled up to the drive thru. As I sat there I remembered what I had read on SOMEONE'S blog...about the Pay it Forward thing. Well, I looked in my rear view mirror...no one was there. Then I said to God, "Ok Lord...Lets do it! The next person that pulls in behind me is going to be someone that really needs this so...if you would, send someone now!"
Well, Hahaaaaa....Immediately after I said it, a lone man pulls in behind me...driving an older Ford Explorer and wearing hunting garb. I'm not one to question God so I accept the challenge. Pulling up to the window, I see a sad faced, young black lady, manning the cash register. I'm thinking to myself that she may not have had any Christmas cheer yet this morning (not a happy camper) but I decide to proceed! I asked her if the gentleman behind me had placed his order yet...she said he had. I then said I wanted to pay for my order AND his. Then when he ask what was going on or why someone would DO that for him, that she needed to tell him this...
"Tell him we don't know each other...Tell him I just wanted to wish him a Merry Christmas and if he could, to just, Pay it Forward someday."
The young black lady just stared at me...then all of a sudden, she starts smiling...and tearing up! She promises to do as I asked and thanked me for being so kind...When I asked how much the total bill was, she said, $2.35...Hahaaaa....I was expecting a little bit more but...Oh well, I still feel good about doing it. I pay the lady and roar off into traffic...Lordy, that was FUN!
But you know what I think about the whole affair? I think it was the lady at the cash register that needed cheering up and not the man behind me...Maybe she'd had an awful morning already...who knows. I just know I felt a connection to her when she finally looked at me.
Who knows...Maybe she'll be the one to Pay it Forward.
Have a great Monday everyone!

Almost Done...

'Tis the Season...to be BUSY! I'm STILL not done! I've still got those little things to finish up on...making sure I've got everything ready to go in the food department...Kids and Grankids will be showing up and by dingies, they want their black olives! It's a must and not open for debate. I'm making the stuffing this year...Hubby got a-NOTHER smoker so I guess the turkey will end up being a guinea pig...cross your fingers that it turns out well.
Hope you are all having a wonderful...headache free, day. Seems the more I try to do, the less gets done. I'm in serious need of a coffee...Enjoy!

Who's Making Cookies?

This past weekend, Hubby decided to BAKE! Oh yeah he did!! He made a peanut butter cookie that was pretty tasty but the Stars of the Show were the Sugar Cookies! Sugar cookie dough, I think, is the trickiest of all doughs. If you don't get it just right, they just don't taste good. Hubby out-did himself...Got everything right on his First 'friggin try! See those sugar sparkles? I did those...I DID TOOO!Hahaaaa...It was very tedious work! They must be placed...just So! I'm so proud of myself...Hahaaaa...Happy Tuesday Guys!!

Well, it's Friday and I'm looking forward to the weekend. Still have shopping to finish, things to wrap. Hope you all have a Fun and Peaceful couple of days. If you see Santa, you might mention his missing reindeer...Hahaaa....

I Been Bad...

Buddy's not talking to me... the little shoe chewer! I've tried Everything! Big bones, little bones...chewy toys, frizbees, rags...I'm just out of ideas. I know he's still a pup but this is getting expensive! 60 dollar shoes this time was the target...ruined. Can't put presents under the tree in fear he'll have the Best Christmas EVER!Hahaaaa. So, put your thinking caps on! If you've had this problem, I could use the benefit of your wisdom...I hate it when he gives me the cold shoulder.

Saturday Smile!

I was at WalMart buying a bag of Purina dog chow for my dog , in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog chow, RIGHT ??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in inten.........sive care, with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and all you do is load your pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle's butt and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Better watch what you ask me and be prepared for my answer. I have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say. Now that you've read it I have to confess, I copied it from someone else.. share and make someone else smile today :)

(This was an email I got this morning...The mental picture of someone stepping off a curb to smell a poodle's butt, made the coffee I was drinking, go up my nose! What a hoot! Now, GO forth on this nasty, rainy Texas day and make Merry, or where Ever you might be on this Saturday morning! Feel free to copy. I think I'm off to town...later gang!

I Been...Ditched...

She ditched me...Her OWN Mother...Crystal's at it again! Can you believe she decided she has had enough of FaceBook?? OMG...Do you think she's FINALLY come to her senses? She has now decided to RETURN to BLOGGING! All of this is "tongue-in-cheek" of course and I can't say I blame her. With all the changes that FB keeps doing, you get weary just trying to keep up. I have an account and when I do use it, it's mostly political happenings that I post about (someone has to do it...Hahaaa), or to see what's up with my friends. No biggie. If I bother to spend a whole five minutes on there, it's unusual. I like it to keep up with my kids and grankids and I doubt I'll ever cancel it, but it's not my favorite venue for socializing... I do the...Twitter. It's Fast, Clean and to the Point! I get to follow and BE followed by "like-minded" people which IS mainly...Hahahaa....political...WHAT??Hahaaaa....Well, SOMEONE has to save the world!!! I'm opinionated, so it works for me. So I suppose the long and short of this post is to say, Welcome Back Crystal! To me, there is just NO Where else that you can make wonderful "friends" from All Over The World like you can, by blogging...
Go welcome her home guys or chew her out for leaving in the first place...Hahaaa....I'll catch up with you all in a bit...I'm still pickin' ditch-dirt out from my fingernails...

It Begins....

I bought this ornament the year my Dad passed...love it.
The "Good" witch...Wizard of Oz
Our Buddy telling Daddy what he wants for Christmas...
Our tree which is NOT finished...more to do...

Well, Here it is again...Christmas! I LOVE this time of the year! Thanksgiving is wonderful of course, but you get to be Thankful AND tell Jesus Happy Birthday, for one whole month! Now that's what I call a celebration...

I always begin by watching Scrooge...the 1938 version...love it! I have all the filmed versions and the book. To me, the moral of the story is all about love...and if you have love in your heart for your fellow man, things all around you are seen in a totally different light. It's not about the "getting"...it's about the "giving"...reaching out to make someones day go just a little bit easier. These times are getting tougher. More and more people are loosing their jobs and even their homes. The word we'll be looking for is Patience. I think we can achieve much just by using it...Moms in grocery store lines with screaming babies...people that you know see you but pretend not to, as they rush into the stores and the door slams in your face...that guy that rides your bumper...the checkout lady who seems to have had the life slammed out of her...old people who just don't know how they'll eat today. These things are everywhere. I just truly believe that with Patience and "giving", we can all breathe a little easier. I try to give sourpusses my smile...hugs to those needing the touch of someone who cares and a few bucks to the little old lady who wants to buy her cat a treat but can't decide whether to put back the canned corn or the flour. We can make it happen! You know...that "thing" that makes it Christmas!
Do I believe in Santa Claus? You bet I do...he's...us.
Hope you're having a Wonderful start to all the festivities...It begins.

Thanksgiving Week...

Morning Everyone! This Harvest Cake comes from one of the Best cooks around...Miz Junie Rose! I saw she had posted this recipe on Facebook and JUST had to have it. All I had to do, was ask! Thank you Junie! It was Wonderful! For those of you that wanted it...here it is!

HARVEST CAKE

Harvest Loaf

I 3/4 cups flour (reg.) sifted
1 tsp.baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp.ginger
1/4 tsp.ground cloves
1/2 cup butter (1 stick) softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup pumpkin
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
3/4 cup chopped nuts (chopped finer than they usually are in package)

Oven @350

9x5 greased and floured pan

Combine flour, soda, salt and spices.

Cream butter well - gradually add sugar - Blend in eggs - beat well.

...to this...

add dry ingredients, alternately with pumpkin, beginning and ending
with dry ingredients.

Stir in chocolate morsels and 1/2 cup nuts.

Turn into pan and top with remaining nuts.

Bake 65 to 75 minutes. (or until tooth pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean)

Let cool about 10 minutes. Run knife around all edges and turn out
onto rack to finish cooling!

I usually put a powdered sugar icing on top - in strips going both ways.
(as seen in photo!)

Recipe can be found on box of sugar.

(or mix well, powdered sugar (sm, amount) with a couple
spoons of cream or canned milk and few drops vanilla- mix until smooth and thick
enough to pour from a big spoon-onto your cake) :)

***Note About Pumpkin:
One can pumpkin -net wt. 15 oz.- is just enough for 2 Harvest Loaves-
so I usually make 2 cakes and don't have that half can of pumpkin left!***
Junie

As for me, I left out the chocolate pieces. The ginger in the recipe gives it a slight lemony taste which I LOVE! I also just used chopped walnuts for the topping and mixed some into the cake batter. I'll be making this Every Year!

Well, I hope you all had a great weekend because things are going to start getting busy! We have Thanksgiving on Thursday and that means the opening of a Very busy month! All the kids are suppose to be coming for lunch and then after that, it's...Say it With Me...Christmas Tree Time!! Yeah! I love Thanksgiving but I Love, Love, Christmas Time! Now hopefully, my new tree lights up like it's suppose to! The GranBabies will be spending the night Thursday (Tradition) to help decorate and watch movies and eat popcorn...It's always a fun night. God has been SO good to me...
Well. guess I'll try to pay attention to work chores...the computer is screaming at me to get busy. Hope you all have a Great Day!!

Monday...

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a Sweet and peaceful weekend. Hubby and I didn't really do Squat. I went to town Saturday to get a couple of birthday presents for this coming week...When I asked Hubby if he wanted to tag along, the answer was a resounding, No!Hahaaa...men and shopping just don't mix.
All the shopping I've done so far for Christmas was immediately brought home and WRAPPED! I just want to put up the tree and pop those presents under it! I, ALONE, do all the wrapping every year and by the time I get it done, my neck and back are killing me. Not This Year!Hahaaa.....I'm one up on Santa!
Well, guess I'll turn my attention to something useful here at work...I've just noticed my coffee cup is empty...That's just Not right! Happy day Guys!

Rollin' and Smokin'....and Believin'

I have always admired Smokin' Joe Frazier...Not only was he a great boxer, but he's an honorable man. I remember this fight between Mohammed Ali (Cassius Clay) and Frazier... KnockOUT in the 15th round by Smokin' Joe!! Great fight! (Picture me jumping up and down screaming, "WHUP HIS ASS!!!....I'm so ashamed....Hahaaa...not!) Of course, Ali came back to win the next two but, hey...no problem. While Frazier never ran from a fight in his life, Ali managed to skip out on Viet Nam as a conscientious objector. Muslim you know...wasn't Always a Muslim...oh well, best shut up and get ON with it. Smokin' Joe now has the battle of his life going on right now...You've probably heard he has liver cancer and is in hospice...so sad. If you want to read about it, go HERE. UPDATE: Joe Frazier passed away November 7th...Bless his heart....
There was ALSO an Earthquake in...wait for it...Oklahoma! 5.6!! I know there's tiny ones all the time but this was unheard of in Our lifetime! Bunch of damage...with roads being torn apart! If you want to read about it, go HERE.
Got out and did some more Christmas shopping yesterday...not much but I think I'll be glad that I didn't wait. You NEVER know when something unbelievable will happen like THIS. Like I believe the WH on Anything these days!Hahahaaa.....Sometimes...you just haffta' BELIEVE!
Sweet Sunday to Everyone!

SkyWatch Friday

Open skies of New Mexico....Hope you all are having a good week! It's been getting colder here in Texas...finally. Not much going on. Just looking forward to Friday and a peaceful weekend. I really need to get out and about with my camera! I seem to be scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to photos. I constantly seem to be just doing two things...working and going home...period. I think it's called, being in a rut. Oh well, got a few Christmas things to wrap (hate doing the wrapping at the last minute!) and list to make out...should keep me busy for a little while...Enjoy your day and have a cuppa coffee on me!!

Don't You Dare Say It !!!Hahahaa

If you've been around my blog for awhile you'll Also be aware that I am a Totally, Christmas Person! Lights, smells and smiles. If you don't remember that, Tree From Hell, last year, you can see it here... I swore then and there that THIS year I'd have a new tree that didn't involve putting on each and every branch...individually! Lord, what a chore that was! Hubby was insistant that we use it...It was a WallyWorld Special $75 dollar tree...After he had to do the "chore" for a few years, he came around to MY way of thinking fairly quickly...Hahahaaaa....(I can be Very patient when needs, be). Last Saturday our friends Tom and Bev visited...Bev and I went shopping...I purchased the NEW tree and it was sitting in the back of my Jeep...in it's box...When the Guys got in, I simply asked Hubby to go get it out of the back of my car and put it in the store room...Hahaaaaa...I heard Not One Word! He just grinned... Bless his little heart...Hahaaaa....
Anyway, that's it in the photo. No, you can't see it until it's decorated and that'll happen Thanksgiving afternoon.
Well, guess I'll get this posted. Think I'll go make a little decaf since it's evening. I KNOW you all are excited Christmas is on the way...I just know it...WHAT????Hahaaaa....

Reality Check...

Watch this video first so you'll know what I'm talking about...Go ahead, it's short!
Ann from Snap Edit & Scrap posted about having her bank account hacked! I'm SO sick of this! It seems that honesty means Nothing these days...Oh, I know Dishonesty has been around since the dawn of man but one can hope can't they? Anyway...I heard of a new way crooks invade your privacy and thought I'd share an idea that may help you, as well. Christmas shopping is right around the corner and thieves are banking on busy crowds that simply get caught up in the Joy of the Season but don't pay much attention to their surroundings! We don't live in "Kansas" anymore people! The world is changing SO fast now! The economy is terrible and some Very dishonest people are looking forward to making an easy buck.
If you've watched the video, you'll see the tin foil that the reporter is holding up. What I did was to simply cut two sheets of the stuff and line my wallet with it...both sides of it so all my cards and checks are firmly encased between the sheets. Even Superman couldn't see through it!
Line the front AND the back...like a sandwich! The foil is the "bread". As in the video, you don't have to wrap your wallet in a big piece of foil...looks pretty stupid and Very inconvenient to get to your checks or cards. Now, you CAN go online and buy the fancy wallets and purses...but Why? This works just as well...And your BEST protection? Be Aware! Carry just ONE card to town (wrapped in foil!Hahaa...if you don't carry your wallet) A waist purse works great to keep valuables close to your body. It also allows you to be "hands free". Am I OVER dramatizing things? Nope...Better safe than sorry.
Now...you have a little more information to make your holiday shopping go a little smoother...Get Out There and make me Proud! Oh yeah, While you're shopping...I'll take a fancy new BMW please....

Friends and Cheesecake...

We've got our friends up from San Antonio this weekend so I won't be around much this weekend but I'll try to sneak a peek at what y'all are up to while everyone else is sleeping!Hahaaa.....This is Crystal (my kiddo), Beverly (buddy) and Samantha (Grandkiddo).

And last week, I went to the bookstore and had lunch...This is called a Red Velvet cheesecake with cream cheese icing...I was forced to eat it...don't hate me!

Hope your day is a FUN one! Bev and I are going shopping...

A Week? Where Have I Been??

NoWhere!!Hahaaaa....Geez Gang! This week has just Flown by! I truly didn't realise that I hadn't posted...Thought I had done a Wordless Wednesday post, but it's Not here. Oh well, good intentions... I had to do an update in our QuickBooks program at work on all of our computers and it was harrowing. I Hate having to do those so I suppose I got stressed out. It NEVER goes smoothly. They don't give you a choice either...You HAVE to update to the new year. It was also Hubby's birthday last Friday and I didn't even remember to do a post on That! I'm falling down on the job...
ANYWAY, the photo above is what those ski slopes look like in the Summer months in New Mexico. See the mower? We sat and watched that guy move along at about three miles an hour...You couldn't PAY me enough to do this job! Scary! It doesn't look bad in the photo but trust me, in real time, the slant was awful.

Yesterday was Fried Chicken day around here. Southern cooks know that if the weather is cooler where you can open the windows, while frying, you get that chicken, Going!Hahaaa...It's either too hot or too cold to open windows around here so yesterday worked out perfectly.

Our Grandaughter also called wanting to bring her new boyfriend by to meet us. They're both Juniors in high school...Lordy, time is just Shooting by! He seems to be a real sweetie but as us Older folks Know, things have a way of changing our lives so we smile...say hello, glad to meet you, and hope they are kind to each other.

Well, guess I'll get this posted and get started on visiting You! Hope you have a Great Sunday!!

Rain...Finally!

I know our back yard looks awful...I Use to have my planters filled with flowers and veggies but not this year. We are under water rationing so we can't do much in the way of saving flowers. The St Augustine grass is our biggest worry right now and what little we can water usually is spent on trying to save it. This morning, God was good to us...rain is, at this Very moment, falling on us! It's like waking up on Christmas morning! Hubby and I keep looking outside to make sure it doesn't disappear! What a Gift!

Hubby finally picked the "lemon" from my "lemon" tree....there was only one. I've been faithfully watering it all Summer hoping I could save it...When he cut it open, it turns out...it's a LIME TREE!!! I have been waiting ALL Flippin' Summer for that thing to turn yellow...Hahaaaa...The tag even SAYS it is a Lemon Tree!! Well, they lied! But, that's ok...we Love a good Key Lime Pie!

Well, hope you are getting what You need this morning...I know we are...now I just need a good, hot, cuppa coffee.
