December 20th...Just Remembering

Just remembering...This is my Dad's sister Mary (L), daughter RuthAnn (middle), and grandmother, Marget (R).  My Dad's parents are from Vienna, Austria.  Grandmother was a servant in Grandfather's house.  Long story short, they fell in love...grandfather was disinherited for marrying the maid, so he left for America. After he got settled, he sent for my grandmother.  They bought land in Stonington, Connecticut, a short walk to Old Mystic.  They made a life together...grandfather and both sons, my dad Godfrey and my Uncle Frank, built the house.  Two stories...Daddy always talked about how wonderful the Christmases were at home.  All the food was farm raised...the tree was cut from their land and they all (four children) helped decorate it.  Real candles, not electric lights...only to be put on Christmas Eve...
Wish I could go back in time just to see it all...

Oh, wouldn't that be fun to step back into an old family Christmas again?? Just to see all those people once more.

What a wonderful old picture!

And what a lovely story!

Oh please, tell us more sometime, when you have the time. It is almost a Faerie Tale. :-)

Blessings of Yule,
Coming Christmas Eve joy,
Coming Christmas Day joy,

Such a wonderful love story Donna! And know you have many stories you could share. Maybe when you retire would be a good time to make notes of memories for the family.
Love you

What a wonderful old photo- a treasure! I can't imagine real candles on a real tree...I would be scared to death of a fire, but I guess back then they all knew how to do it and not burn the house down! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

That photo is priceless. How wonderful.

And I can't even imagine cutting down a tree on my own land overflowing with trees. How festive!

That really is a great photo. It captures a story.
