Illness, Cake and Candy...

Good morning!  Not a whole lot to report here...Ruth Ann (my sister with colon cancer) will be heading into her third chemo treatment on Monday.  She's not experiencing illness yet.  Hopefully, she won't...time is just barely crawling by for me lately...
Our sweet Sloane was sick Thursday and couldn't attend daycare, so I got to keep her.  I got her temp down and the rest of the day for her was spent drinking her bottle and napping.  You know I wanted her to feel better, but it was wonderful holding her while she slept...She is feeling better today.
I've been trying to lose some weight (20lbs) for over a month!  I'll lose a few pounds then gain half of it back!!  Then, Larry wants something sweet made... (he can lose weight just by rolling over in bed...)  and of course, I have to taste test!  Vicious circle.  I'm also not walking enough...How do you stay in shape?
Hope you are enjoying a happy and peaceful weekend!

Sloane...

SO TRUE!!

BECAUSE OF THIS...lol
Texas Sheet Cake that I made yesterday.

I have some plants I need to put outside but sure enough...if I do, we will get slammed again with cold weather.  There's always one last cold snap here before Easter.

Larry and I have agreed on the name Candy for our newest member of the family.  I did like Lucy and Lemon...who knows, maybe I'll change it to Lemon before she finally arrives?!  I'm awful with naming our furrbabies!

Our sick Sloane (greatgrandaughter) 6 months old now.

AND yes, I made Cherry Ice Cream...bad Donna!
I ONLY had one spoonful...ok, maybe two...lolol

Can you believe some of these???  I feel so old!  I'll be 72 in August...and I remember all, except Pearl Harbor.  My Dad was there...and I remember his stories.  And maybe not the beginnings of the Corvette...but I got to ride in one with my old boyfriend...a 1964 model...blue.  They rode hard!  I wouldn't have one...but back then, we had fun.
Okay, I'll quit rambling...
Have a great weekend!

Losing weight...what a drag. Since I live alone it's much easier to avoid having sweets or any temptation in the house. I just don't buy any, then when I want something, I have only high protein yogurt available or just deal with not eating anything. Good luck with your attempts. Linda B

Walking helps me and just saying no does too. After a while you just lose the temptation to eat sweets. I can't believe Harrison Ford is 80. Time is just flying by. Have a wonderful weekend.

You are two years younger than I am. Reading that list just boggles my mind...I'm ancient! But I will feel a lot better after having some of that sheet cake (it looks like fudge!!!!)

Hope dear wee Sloane feels better and better.

I watched a news report a few years ago about a woman who lived in a one bedroom apartment and walked in that apartment for twenty minutes every day and lost one hundred and twenty pounds. I tried it and was doing a great job losing weight until I decided to get an exercise bike and ride it instead of walking. That did not work so now I have to go back to walking. Plus I probably should quit eating ice cream.

I'm like you - lose a few pounds, gain 1 back. My husband loses weight every time I diet, even though he is still eating cookies!
Glad Sloane is feeling better, but the snuggling is nice too!
I feel old for sure!

Love this except for Sloane being sick. Great chance to snuggle though.
Lets not talk about loosing weight...I lost so much a few years ago and sadly it's been creeping back. I MUST loose the dreaded 10 pounds but like you my sweet tooth gets in the way.
Love your new pup and she's definitely not a lemon..too sweet for that!!
the picture of the "Summer Bod" just cracked me up..too funny and a real double-take.

You really are such a sweeeet Grandma for the sweeet babygirl!
When we were 40, we thougt, 70 is old. Now I think, 70 is not old! My aunt was 90 when she said: "I cannot carry the heavy waterbowls to wet the garden any longer! I'm not 80!!" :)

The ice-cream looks delicious! Who can say NO??

Best wishes for your sister, dear Donna!

Hugs and blessings to you from Dori from the Bavarian Forest

Hi Donna. Little Sloane is so cute. So glad she is feeling better. It's nice that you got to spend some time just holding her. What a wonderful blessing that is! I totally get your weight loss challenge - I need to lose a few pound myself. The struggle is real! That cherry ice cream look delicious and I bet it doesn't have any calories at all, right?! ;-) Have a good week!

You're still a spring chicken, Donna! I'm a few years ahead of you, girlie! :)

I hope beautiful baby Sloane is all better again. She is lovely.

My best thoughts and wishes go out to Ruth Ann...

Your new addition to the family looks like she's settled in.

Take care...all of you. :)

I will be 56 soon...and I do feel old by reading all that-sigh...I have lost a total of 61 lbs, thanks to the grieving over the loss of our son 15 months ago...I do not recommend that by the way (trying to be funny but its failing). Wishing you a beautiful week my friend.

Sweet Sloane! I hope she's feeling better! Elvis died the year we got married so yes, we'll be celebrating our 46th anniversary this Saturday! If you want to lose weight you have to move, move, move! Walk for at least 30 minutes every single day! It will happen! your comment about Larry losing weight just by turning over in bed had me laugh out loud!

I hope your sister's chemo goes well, and that Sloane feels much better. Lovely pic of her. And that little Candy with the podgy puppy tummy....oh my word, adorable.

Weight loss after menopause is just not working. I try, believe me! I work on strength, balance, cardio with the Peloton app and then walk as much as possible when the weather is nice. I find that if I work out, walk and then eat something light, like some grilled fish and veggies...the weight comes off. SLOWLY...but I keep at it. Okay..so I am only about 3 lbs down since January...but it is coming! Oh...no sugar or refined carbs. And wine. No alcohol for me. It just puts it back on.

I hope your sweetie feels better soon!

I'm glad that Ruth Ann isn't having awful effects of chemo. And glad that little Sloane is feeling better. It's been too long since I got to snuggle a baby. Youngest grand is 13 and no great grands in sight.
I sympathize with you. My love of baking ( and eating) is not conducive to losing weight. But I do go walking every morning so hopefully that helps.

Glad your sister had a good day. I can't imagine you needing to lose 20 pounds. Losing weight is the pits isn't it? Sloane is so cute. I love TX sheet cake. Haven't had it in years. Way back in the day when I lived in the dorm one of the girl's mother always sent TX cake. Good memories.
Those memes are a hoot.

M’y grandson is also not feeling well (10 months) because of his teeth.
I should loose weight too , my thyroid problems have been terrible to my weight, but my husband loves cakes and it is tempting to taste what I have been baking! Love your new dog.

getting sick also. I'm glad she's feeling better. That chocolate dessert looks Yummy! Wow, you made your own ice cream! I'd have to have some too.....especially cherry! The pics and quotes you share on your posts crack me up, Donna. Had to laugh at the rolling pin one, and will pass that on to the girls haha. And Yes, I remember a lot of these, especially Saturday Night Fever. A great post today, Donna.

Sick babies, can't wait for them to feel improved they do get over most things quickly, thank goodness.
Food on and in smaller plates but I expect you have done that. Good luck.

So many funny things in this post! That cake looks FANTASTIC! (Deprived carnivore speaking.) I'm a Texan, too! Born in the Houston area and all my cousins and stepdad are down there. We moved to CO when I was 9, but once a Texan, always a Texan. :) Oh, I have a grandson named Sloan! Fun post. Prayers for the chemo.

You asked about exercise. I just walk with videos by Leslie Sansone and do a few stretching exercises I got from Bob and Brad on YouTube. Leslie is on YouTube, too. And I had a hard time losing weight until I started this meat thing. ;) In the summer I walk outside.

I'm 78 and I don't remember Pearl Harbor and Wizard of Oz was before my time, but I remember the rest of that list. Pollyanna, oh how I loved her, it was such a great movie! Good to hear sweet little Sloane is feeling better and my prayers are with your sister.

I have given up trying to lose weight. I eat healthy, but life wouldn’t be worth living without dessert. I’m sure if I moved around more that would help, but I am so happily involved in so many projects that I just can’t be bothered. I think there’s something to be said for inner peace and serenity when it comes to good health. You do you. Whatever makes you happy.
